Sagittarius-Carina Arm: Space bases/outposts.

Hi!

I am a new player to Elite: Dangerous and got very interested in exploration when I heard that something like 99.9% of all the systems remains un-explored.
Being a noob, I farmed a few Federation missions and made enough credits to buy a decently equipped ASP Explorer. Next, looking at the traffic log on the E:D Star Map website, I noticed that the Sagittarius-Carina Arm had very little traffic, so I decided that my mission is to go out into this arm and explorer away!

My main question and concern is the availability of space bases and outposts in this arm to dock at for repairs and possibly selling some exploration data. Are there any bases in this arm, whether discovered or not, that one can use as base stations during the exploration?

All info will be appreciated!!!

P.S. I only have the base version of E:D, might consider buying the Horizons expansion if the game is to my liking. So space bases are preferred, but the presence of planetary/asteroid bases may be useful in the future.

I don't have the info you're looking for, but there's an Exploration forum under Worlds of Elite - they'll be able to help you out if you repost there (or the mods might just move you ;) )

There are only handful of bases outside the human inhabited areas. (three or four between the Bubble and Colonia and couple of them in several nebulae) but vast majority of them are planet bases, so they won't be accessible without Horizons.

So if you are planning a longer expedition, I'd recommend packing the AFMU and some repair drones with you. But to be honest, unless you are an extraordinarily clumsy fuel scooper, you shouldn't need repairs at all.
If you are planning on using neutron stars to boost your jumps, you'll need an AFMU to repair your FSD from time to time, but most damage explorers suffer is usually caused during planetside operations.

Thanx for the replies CMDR's!

I will get myself a AFMU then!

My question now is , how did those remote outposts on the Colonia highway get there then? Was it due to the fact that Frontier realized more players are going there and they decided to add those bases, or where they there in the first place, waiting to be discovered?

And the awnser to that question will then determine my focus:
1. Search for bases in the Sagittarius-Carina Arm if they are waiting to be discovered, or
2. Begin a movement to request the dev's to place more outposts in the less explored regions of the galaxy in order to entice more exploration!

I thought regular repair drones can only repair other ships but not the one launching them.

They were build due to the successful completion of (one or more) Community Goals.

Aaah! Thanx for the clarification on the origin of those deep space outposts!

I do hope that the developers put more such bases into the spiral arms as well. It will make exploration more viable and accessible.
