MEET-UPS

If you would like to announce a meet up schedule for yourself or a group of yours, send me a PM and Ill add it to this page.
Lets say you where a small group of friends heading out from civilization, but would also like more people to join you. This would be the page to announce that.

EXPLORATION WINGS - Return trip from Beagle Point to Hip 72043 via stage 3 and 4 and Jaques Station
Initiators: Corbin Moran and Wishblend

This schedule will bring us back to the bubble in time for the Distant Worlds meet up on december 4th.
It has a comfortable average pace of just below 3500 LY / week.
Dates has been tweaked to allow most meet ups to fall on saturdays - or thursdays.
Times has been chosen to allow different timezones to take part. It will be quite late for some and quite early for others though ;)

If you´d like to join us then make an introductory post in this thread and log in to our team speak server during a meet up and say hello.

We will coordinate with each other on Team Speak wether we play in OPEN or a private group for a specific meet up.

Personally I might not be able to make the meet ups in July, but by early August I will be there to rendezvous with you at the Will-o'-wisp.

Unlike the Distant Worlds meet ups where Wishblend and I acted as hosts (and made a real effort to always have one of us present at all meet ups), Id like to be just another pilot for this return trip. Most of the times Ill be there, but other times I won't.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

UPDATE - Tuesday July 19th:
POI processing to the galactic mapping project due to begin in a few days!

With the new interactive galaxy map fully operational the time has finally come to honor all the explorers who have submitted their amazing discoveries to the Sagittarius-Carina POI registry. During the next days and weeks Ill process the more than 225 POIs (!) submitted. Those POIs that qualify for the galactic mapping criteria will be added to the map in the corresponding category (historical location, remarkable planetary, features, stellar cluster, etc.).

I am really looking forward to this! It is almost a year since the mission launched on August 1st 3301, but even now many CMDRs are still actively contributing to help us chart the wonders during a full lenght of a spiral arm. Incredible! Sign-up is still open and will remain open for the foreseeable future. If your travels brings you to the Sagittarius-Carina Arm and you spot something noteworthy, please sign up and add it to our registry.

UPDATE - Monday May 9th:
150 / 150 - Right on Commanders!

Today we reached another two milestones: to this date 150 CMDRs have signed up for the mapping project and 150 POIs have been registered.
Right on Commanders!

I would like to single out two pilots for honerable mention: CMDR Alistair Hope has logged 7 major POIs, including 5 planetary nebula, a twin Earth system and a twin ringed water-world system. CMDR Manae has logged 20 minor POIs, including several ELWs, AWs and WWs. Jolly good show!

UPDATE - Friday April 29th:
Photo-competition is on again

The photo-contest is up and running once again, after a short temporary break due to an unknown error in the submission protocol on our gallery. Details in the post by AndyMJ just below.

UPDATE - Sunday April 24th:
Photo-competition and prospecting service

Great news everyone! This week we got a fine mention in the FD newsletter and GalNet, new pilots are signing up and a steady stream of scout reports are comming in. Since the Sagittarius-Carina Mission launched more than 130 explorers has taken part and more than 100 POIs has been logged!

This week also saw the launch of the Sagittarius-Carina prospecting service - this is the place to go to register any materials you find out there.

And over at our mission gallery AndyBoom is hosting a photo contest called Project Snapshot. You may submit your favorite photo from the mission until May 1st (GMT+1). The winner will be able to pick a Frontier store item of their choice worth 5£ / 6€ / $7. All the details can be found at the link above.

UPDATE - Saturday April 9th:
So this is it! Today is the relaunch!

First let me say how excited I am. We have had a lot of people sign up during the last few weeks, and also many of the original crew getting ready to set out again - bringing the number of registered participants close to 80 and the number of currently active CMDRs close to 50. I really look forward to hear all the stories of your travels and the shinies you find out there :)
(Personally I wont be relaunching until the end of May when our Exploration Wings in DW reach Beagle Point)

Then let me say a huge THANK YOU to all who has helped make this happen - everybody who has contributed either by scouting my wild leads for proposed camps, "donating" discoveries of their own to be used as waypoints, loading maps into EDDiscovery, setting up our gallery, EDSM tracker, Team Speak and Discord channels, designing the mission patch, promoting the expedition in various ways, providing continued moral support... the list goes on :D

Wishblend, Mindwipe, Satsuma, AndyBoom, Draco47oz, Finwen, Turjan, Hellhawk, Slam Dunk, Gibbonici, Argon, Iureka, Dobbo, drkaii, Swift Arrow, Erimus, Kancro Vantas, Stulli, Allitnil, Whiterose, Katejina, Aengus, Istigkeit and everybody who has supported this or signed up either back in august or here in april to take part in the fun... - thank you all!
(if I have forgotten one or two people in the ruckus I deeply apologize - please send me a gentle PM and Ill get the list updated)

Please remember to register the date you set out and reach a camp in the progress sheet - this will serve as your own record, but also let others know how many is currently active on the expedition.

If you feel like it, it would be awesome to have participants post a "postcard" as they set out. This can be everything from a short greeting, a group photo from your starting camp... or you could do as CMDR Turjan did...

Remember - there is no centrally scheduled meetups here. If you want to organize meetups for groups you will have to set it up yourself. The infrastructure should now be in place for you to easily do just that - the participants sheet will help you see where others are - the comms channels stand ready for you on both TS and Discord. Simply make a post here in this thread, post the details and get people together for the fun!

I hereby declare this bazaar (re)opened! ;)

Our mission hub now sports a tracker showing the visits to each camp within certain time frames.

This is the status as of 24th April 3302:
gJybye2.png

* Note: not all CMDRs taking part are keeping an updated profile on the mission hub, so this graph is based on data from 92 out of 132 CMDRs

You can really see the impact of various groups here, from the original crew that set out a long time ago, to the Distant Worlds crowd, to the new people signing up and setting out from the bubble :)

Due to an unknown error with submissions to the photo contest, Project Snapshot has been cancelled for the time being. I will make some changes to the gallery and restart the contest once everything is sorted.

Apologies to anyone who previously tried to upload a photo to Project Snapshot and received an error. The site has now gotten a rather big update, which includes site users. Meaning you can register a user on the site which will grant you some additional features such as editing and deleting your submissions, quick uploading for images and submitting a photo to the contest. Due to the issues before, we can only allow users to submit photos to the contest. But registering is quick and super easy.

More info here: http://firstgreatexpedition.org/mybb/showthread.php?tid=3609&pid=29696#pid29696

So, the photo competition is now back on. April 29 through May 15. Otherwise same rules as before.

http://www.sagittariuscarinagallery.com/project-snapshot/

Everything has been thoroughly tested by myself as well as the very nice and helpful CMDRs AndySpawn and Istigkeit. It should all work properly now. ;)

Our Mission Hub google doc has gotten another overhaul - this time with a focus on Points Of Interest (POI's).

All submitted POIs has been divided into Major and Minor - to bring this in line with the praxis at the Galactic Mapping Project.

Once you enter the coordinates for a POI you have discovered, the sheet automatically displays which camp this POI is closest to.

A graph has been added that shows the number of POIs registered in the vicinity of each camp.

Together these added features should make it easier to spot interesting locations that you might want to check out, but it should also make it more clear where the route is still devoid of any major discovery. Will you be the first to locate a major POI in the vicinity of Camp 15?

All POIs submitted as part of the Sagittarius-Carina Mission will be taken into account when the Galactic Mapping Project relaunches after its current reconstruction. Erimus has put together a group of map makers and app makers, and we are currently working on a new community map of the galaxy in higher resolution and with interactive features.

Filter Views - three easy steps to improve your quality of life :)

To get the full benefit of our mission hub I would encourage you to use the 'filter view' feature in google docs.

This will allow you to e.g. only see those POI's that are close to your current location, or discovered by a certain CMDR etc.
It will also allow you to easily find those explorers close to you - so you can send them a friend and wing invite if you feel like it.

Step 1: Click on any cell in the center of the sheet (not along the "frozen" edges)

Step 2: Select 'Create Filter View' from the 'Data' menu

WTkDCji.png

Step 3: Choose your filter criteria for each relevant column

zrvHI9Y.png

Here is shown how you would choose to only see those POI's that are in the vicinity of Camp 28.

Example: Showing POI's in the vicinity of camp 28:

Looks like there is some planetary nebulae to be found there...

Example: Showing POI's discovered by CMDR AndyBoom:

The Erebus system definitely looks like its worth a visit!

Example: Showing CMDRs in the vicinity of Camp 1a, 2a and 2b:

Use this type of filterview to find out who is in the neighbourhood - and then send them a friend invite :)

I'm not sure if this belongs here, but Mr. and Mrs. Thal and me met up in the Chrachoi sector in the Sagittarius-Carina arm.

And we tried to land on a ring rock [yesnod]

OP updated with a meet up schedule for a small group of people returning from Beagle Point :)

If you would like to post a meet up schedule for another group traveling along some part of the route, please send me a PM.

I landed at Podor yesterday and the camp coordinates led me to a mountain range which was impossible to land in my Conda. Parked up around 2-3km to the East. I am missing next Saturday but hopefully will be at 'The Nest' on the 23rd.

Great news! All landing sites has now been added to the interactive galactic map hosted on EDSM.

All 223 POIs submitted so far has been processed and 38 of these was so unique that they have been added to the galactic mapping project and the interactive map. The remaining POIs (still noteworthy places in their own right) will be published on the forums.

That's fantastic news! Have bookmarked "Red Coral" planetary nebula as it's on my way, giving me something to aim at on my long journey up the arm...rep duly splashed all over you.
