Newcomer / Intro Saitek Fly 5 Help

Hey all iv not played a space game for a while now or used my joystick and i just got elite dangerous last night and was wondering whats the best way to set up my saitek cyborg fly v5
i did find a website but it doesnt seem to work the custom option disappears in the options after i put in the binding :? cant post the link doh

also any tips with elite would be nice :)

My first piece of advice would be to log in to solo and set up your basic commands in the options, then fly around for a bit near the station to see if you think "oh, I want that function on the stick."

I found it much easier to automatise the joysitck functions when I made my own custom bindings - you learn what you own, if that makes any sense. You might get more mileage out of logging in to the combat tutorials and mapping your bindings there.

Generally speaking, I'd say you want some targeting functions on the stick, and at least "select highest threat" as a button on it somewhere. You should also be aware that the control daemon is very well-thought out, and allows you to use button combinations. By this, I mean that you can hold down two buttons to do something that neither button does when pressed on its own. For example, I have my hat switch set to vertical and lateral thrusters. If I hold down my secondary fire button, the hat switch allows me to cycle through the ships my sensors can detect. This is really useful for goping through contacts while in supercruise to assess whether any ships are a potential threat.

i did find this showthread.php?t=40121 if you put that at the end of this forum url after the uk/ part it has the set up i could download and use as binding but not sure how to do it fully

I use that binding with my FLY5 and find it to be very good.
Download the binding file (you may need to change the filename to something different. I just called mine FLY5_Custom.binds)

Copy the file to C:\Users\<Your Windows Username Here>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

Now when you start ED and go to the controls options you should be able to select it.

what do you download it with since when i click on the download link it just opens dropboxusercontent with all the words like
