Hardware & Technical Saitek products X52 X52pro

I was planning to get X56 some time in the future, after dropping the Warthog from my wishlist because of the price. But now after reading this thread, it is X56 that will be dropped from the wishlist.

Now you got me interested in CH products, and they cost even more than that Warthog.. Fighterstick + Pro Throttle + Pro Rudder Pedals = roughly 450 eur in where I live. That is quite a pile of money for me, but if they really are very good quality products and last longer than a year or two then I might still be interested. Of course I could get the pedals later so it would not be such a shock to the wallet at once.
And now that I think about it, Warthog does not come with pedals so that CH stick + throttle would actually be cheaper than Warthog which would also "need" pedals.

So would you say that that Fighterstick + Throttle combo works great with Elite? How does it compare to the Warthog? How about weight, does it stay on the desk or slide around? I see that the throttle is a bit different, it's flat where Warthog has an arc, don't know if this makes any difference in the feel.
Sorry for the question spam, I have not had any sticks after the TAC-2 on Amiga 500, but I would not like to start with something I would be replacing right away so I aim for a product that will last for a while.

I have been lucky.. Got my x52pro since ED beta and its still going strong. 16 weeks ingame didnt break it yet :p

To be honest I think it's the OP who has been unlucky.

I don't really regard myself lucky that my X52 Pro is still working fine. I actually expect it to work well and not break easily.

If it's not working straight out of the box as the OP is suggesting then it sounds like a manufacturing issue that has come up lately or packages being manhandled wrongly by postal / delivery service.

I am not trying to defend Saitek, nor am I employed there. I bought a Saitek x52 pro in July 2014 and , have used it intensively since. My guesstimate would be 3000 hours of use.
The Speed bump on the throttle got jammed this February some time, I fixed it, quite easy, and have had no problems with the kit since. Nada.
Whether I am lucky or other factors come into play, I do not know. The throttle was modified in march with 3 extra buttons (old mouse) on the handle, and everything is in perfect working order (including the 3 extra buttons, which show in game settings as an extra mouse)
I am so far a satisfied customer.

Cheers Cmdr's

My X52 (non pro) generally works fine, and has done since ED Beta. The only glitch I get is that every couple of minutes all the LEDs flicker on the joystick, and if the stick isn't centred, then whatever position it's in becomes the new centre until I pull the plug out and back in again. I've traced this to the drivers - no drivers installed then it doesn't happen. If I could disable SHIFT mode without the drivers I'd be happy, but I've not found a way so I just suffer. I think the build quality on mine is just OK, it's the drivers that are poor.

I own a x52 from september and I've 250-300 hours of heavy duty Elite gameplay on my shoulders. Never had a single problem.

I've only had to get a replacement X-52 once when one of the detents on the throttle seemed to get stuck or something, I probably could have fixed it by removing it myself but instead got a replacement. Other than that my X52 Pro has been solid for the last year and honestly the build quality isn't what I have an issue with, its the drivers. My main hope of the X-56 is that they're going to do an overhaul to the drivers and that we'll finally get proper USB 3.0 support and that it plays nice with newer chipsets.

Aye same here. Aside from the easily remedied throttle detent it's been great. That detent thing is redundant in the throttle anyway. The thing feels and works a lot better without it.

I fully intent to remove the throttle detent once the warranty expires. With the track record of the Saitek-made X-52, I will not void my warranty. Just received my RMA to return the throttle, again....
