Hardware & Technical Saitek X52 and USB 3.0 Port Questions

So, I've ordered a Saitek X52 Pro. I've seen a lot of people saying it has problems on USB 3.0. Is this still a thing? My laptop only has USB 3.0 ports, so will I need to get a powered USB 2.0 hub (does it help?). And if I need a powered hub, what would you recommend? Thanks.

Yes, it is still a thing.

I recently spent a long time trying to Install the X52 Pro drivers on my computer, and I had many issues. The computer would just freeze every time I would plug it in my USB ports, not leaving any options but to do a hard reset.
After hours of experimentation, the solution was to disable INTEL usb xhci in the BIOS of my motherboard, which is related to the USB 3.0

Apparently Saitek doesn't like INTEL XHCI tech.
Disabling that fixed all my issues, and now it works flawlessly and it's awesome.

Hope that will help you avoid a big headache.

That said, you might not run into any issues yourself, just until you get it, try it out, and if your computer freezes up, you'll know what to do.

To get into the BIOS you need to restart your computer and press the DEL key while it is on the booting screen.
If you don't know anything about that, I would suggest you find a tutorial online by googling "Computer BIOS", or "Disabling XHCI"

I wouldn't want to give you any bad directions so, before trying to fix the issue, make sure it presents itself, again maybe you will be fine.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not much into the specifics, so how would I go about disabling xHCI?

If it's a laptop - it's quite possible those options are hidden from you. X52 and USB3 isn't always bad - and it's possible you'll have no problems at all. Of course, it's always possible you'll have problems, and no way of fixing them easily. I'd hope for the former though!

Yea, it's an Alienware 14 Laptop, bought it January 2014. Still going strong, but I though it had two USB 2.0 ports and one 3.0, but as of this afternoon I found out they were all 3.0. I'm hoping for the best. My X52 pro arrives Friday, so I'll test it then. If my computer freaks out and freezes up, what should I do?

Buy an external, powered, USB 2.0 hub. Messy I know, but it should work. I just hope it doesn't come to that! Remember to not touch the CD that comes with the HOTAS, and download the latest drivers direct from the Saitek (Madcatz) website before you plug it in. Once you've got it installed, open the Saitek control panel and go to the MFD tab and disable Clutch Mode. You might also want to set LCD and LED brightness and colours. Good luck! I have heaps of fun with mine :)
