Hardware & Technical Saitek X52 pro vs X55

Hi I am currently considering buying a Saitek X52 pro because of the overwelming good reviews on it.
(let's assume money isn't the issue)

However on the saitek site I encountered another model.
The saitek X55 [h=1]Rhino H.O.T.A.S. System for PC[/h]http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x55.html

(it looks a lot more space-tech)

I was wondering if anyone had experience with this model as most posts are concerning the X52.

Also as a third option i have the
Thurstmaster Warthog (most expensive)

Also i wonder if the split stick might cause an issue?

You are going to get people who will stand behind each of those options as the best choice. I have had the X55 for almost 2 weeks now and have had zero problems with it. It is comfortable and works well. I cannot speak to the longevity of it. I have not owned any other hotas but there are people out there who have had the X52 for 5+ years with no problems and there are also people who have had both and say they are complete garbage. I believe the X55 had some issues when it first came out earlier this year but it seems they have been addressed and chances are you will not have any problems with it.

As for the Thrustmaster Warthog, there is a reason it is over twice the price. It is of a much sturdier build and a higher class of materials. It is not perfect either though as some people have had stiction problems with it, but that is not too difficult to fix. It also does not have the twist axis on the stick to control yaw so you will need to get rudder pedals as well and for whatever reason, Thrustmaster no longer makes rudder pedals :S

Another option is to get a stick and throttle from CH. Of all the mass produced hotas systems out there, CH seems to be the most reliable, however they are very utilitarian in appearance and not quite as many buttons. It does not have the twist axis for yaw so it will need a set of rudder pedals as well and CH makes a nice one. A CH set up with throttle, stick and pedals will cost somewhere between the X55 and the warthog.

Honestly, I think no matter which one you get, it will do fine, it's just a matter of which one is in the budget and makes you happy.

Does someone have information whether the warthog's switches can actually be used in ED?
Most of them are state-switches where ED exprects single clicks.

Warthog Compatibility

I came across a pdf earlier which includes control mapping for the Warthog, so I guess it is possible. Check here:
forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=34437 (PS Sorry the hyperlink isn't embedded. I'm a new member and it won't let me post URLs)

It's page 24 of the first linked PDF.
