Hardware & Technical Saitek X52 Stuck Throttle

Hello, I wonder whether anyone can help me? I have a Saitek X52 (Non Pro) Throttle which I am having a few problems with in Elite Horizons - the throttle wont allow a full range of speeds - at the lowest speed the throttle is in the middle of the speed range, but wont go to Zero (Stop) - it also doesn't appear to go through the full range of speeds only midrange and full - I have to use the keyboard to make the craft stop.
I'm not convinced there is anything wrong with the controller (although there could be), as when you use Control Panel, the full range of for the throttle is displayed in the Z Axis when moved.
I have tried cleaning the potentiometer in the throttle with a contact cleaner, updating the Windows 10 Software and Reinstalling the drivers and profile editor. But to no avail so far. I do use an Elite Profile in the Joystick and haven't previously had this problem.

Unfortunately i had to take an enforced break from Elite since the end of November due to a house move and a slow reconnection to the internet, so this issue has only just become apparent.

Has any one else had this issue and know how to resolve it? I have been tearing my hair out over this for several evenings now :)

Yes I had this same problem it is to do with Win 10 and the Saitek drivers/new software.

I just answered someone else who's issue is similar to yours, same procedure will correct your problem.

New Saitek Software & Drivers and windows 10, been there and got that Tee shirt, so I know your frustration.

Please check (in windows 10) that the version of the driver you are using is actually the one you downloaded. Don't trust the installer to install the correct one, Windows seems to want to load old drivers first. make sure when you download the new drivers that your x52 is disconnected or it wont work.

From memory this is what I did to get it working - 1. disconnect x52 (pull out the USB connection). 2. in win 10 settings search typed drivers, selected human interface something or other and x52, uninstalled drivers from the driver tab. 3. uninstalled Saitek software. 4. turned of computer and let it cool down 5. restart computer 6. go to Saitek website and select drivers/win 10 configuration & download and save 7. download software and run as new installation 8. connect x52.

The order is important otherwise you seem to end up with old drivers.
Keep checking the drivers from the windows tab (i think we are on version 7.??.?? atm) to make sure they are the latest ones.

Everything is fine now, even the little mouse thing on the throttle works in ED, which i never had before.

Hi Rob, thank you so much for your help with this - I tried everything you suggested as well as deleting the Saitek Windows Temp files - unfortunately it hasn't made the stick work correctly, so I am beginning to wonder whether I have a fault in the throttle - i've noticed that the lower section of the Z Axis "flutters" in the control panel - does it do that with your X52? Thanks again for your helpful post and suggestions. If you have any other suggestions then it would be very gratefully received.

Again, from memory (as I am not entirely sure) the saitek software is a complete new version for windows 10.
I will check again later later to see if there are any more clues and post.

My situation was that I replaced an x55 with an x52 (pro But i dont think makes any difference). The x52 had windows 7 sofware and drivers which i loaded. When i ran ED the throttle would not zero, and the lateral thrusters seemed to be on all the time even if i set a large deadzone. After a few collisions too many I checked the driver versions and realised they were not current so deleted them and reloaded them from website, and it just kept reloading the same ones. I then deleted drivers and uninstalled the software and disconnected the x52. Downloaded the "software first" same problem.

Finally having removed everything again Probably a few times (and a few tantrums later) i downloaded the drivers first and "saved them" then downloaded the software and it installed the latest drivers from my save and it worked, i have no idea why this is important , but it did actually say something like this on the Saitek website :)

Hi Rob, thanks again for your help :) Yep - I have been chucking many toys out of the pram with this, So frustrating, I don't think I have quite got the order of doing this correct. I nearly bought a new Joystick on Friday night on Ebay, but am still half convinced that the problem is the drivers rather than the stick. Having said that we did recently move house so the stick could have been damaged in the move. I'm going to have another go tonight :)

Hi Duncan,

Have you resolved the issue? It is unlikely to be broken, its a very common frustration with the x52 & windows 10. The x55 isnt that much better but its newer so less driver choice (less chance of getting it wrong :)

I have just noticed how many other people are having similar issues, check out the other threads also, if you have fixed it, let us know how as SO MANY people have similar issues.

Hi Rob,

I was unable to resolve the issue, however I am confident that I managed to get the correct drivers installed - I followed yours and Saitek's instructions, but think that my controller may have been damaged in the house move. I have now purchased an X55 from Ebay and look forward to receiving it in the next couple of days. I am going to keep the old stick however just on the off chance that they release new working drivers and the stick isn't faulty.
You have been really helpful with this, and if you fancy adding me in game to your friend list, my user name is Duncan R Leavett

Thanks again for your help :)

Good luck with your x55, you may have similar problems, but the software is newer. (I have used both)

Let me know if you have issues I will send request later
