Salome's Requiem..........................really?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTS5xbfKd9g

What a load of ole hyperbole pfaff.

Look Salome, if you died because of keeping a secret message that all powers are conspiring against the lil people to meet the desires of their own agendas and end-states, which pertains to subterfuge out their in the void, well............you died needlessly.

Get off your high horse. Humans have been treating others like this for eons, millenia actually. Your message is dated, not new, not fresh, same old - fact.

and in a gaming sense, utterly, utterly disappointing.

Dunno, sounds like politics, she even admits to her wrong doing, not making herself 'better' then the other side, big governments have shady stuff going on inside them? nothing really new is it? basically acting like a whistle blower? not a saint just asking people to open their eyes.

Find it funny people going to attack sirius at sothis. lol. To bad there was not a counter effort on them.

About time someone takes the napalm to Sirius..........

Where's my matches?

I don't think it's a good idea to fight against the biggest manufacturer of FSDs and power generators while an alien invasion fleet is at our doorsteps.

But I understand, damsel in distress demands more blood and more war. More souls to be sacrificed in her name to make her feel important.
Only killing in her name is good killing. Wars in her name are just wars.

If somebody else causes the death of a few hundred to save trillions it's evil. If she demands the death of thousands for "truth" it's justified.

Go on, sacrifice more souls on the altar of Salomé's ego.

Just don't complain if things go bad for humanity.

Hmm. I don't understand why she couldn't just broadcast the message from a safe place...
We can travel across the galaxy, but she can't send a message?

Because the message wasn't her message. It was someone else's and Salmome and crew needed to go activate that message.

Perhaps a race which loses all ability for logic or critical thinking when presented with a object which causes stirrings in their reproductive organs doesn't really deserve to survive contact with a superior race?

Actually she died because for some reason she went on a massive mission to seemingly hand deliver a message rather than sticking it on GalNet...Not before advertising it to the entire galaxy to make it more difficult....Only then to be killed by someone with a ship full of exploit ridden powerful engineering mods.

Sounds legit ^^

Remember that, at it's absolute best, Salome's words there are not necessarily absolute truth, but just what she believed to be truth. From there, it goes down through hyperbole all the way through to intention manipulative deceit.

I hope that her message isn't 100% spot-on a reflection of the game world, because the "everyone with power is entirely corrupt and self-serving" trope is just as boring as "everyone in power is entirely pure and perfect".

We can travel across the galaxy, warping light / space (whatever) to almost instantaneously travel light years in any direction. But we can't scan / map planets for interesting things then bookmark them. We can telepresence from one end of the galaxy to another, but still have to courier messages a couple light years away. Our ships computers can't remember trade prices of planets we visited last week and Galnet is a basic text dump, without even live links, literally worse than the world wide web we have today for getting information from. Finally, tea (literally a few tons) can stave off a famine.

Also, this Salome message, is it the book or ingame, do we have to buy the book to find out what's in the game?

That bugs me. Should be able to scan planets for stuff. What is the sensors good for if they can not find big poi on planets.

"Salome killed by Harry Potter during a live event" => TBH, the whole sentence is so *STUPID* it should ring a bell.

If she was *REALLY* killed by an engineers-exploiting-troll, then the only logical conclusion would be : "FD doesn't get it."

Poor Drew Wagar ... Working his 4ss 0ff to make sure this whole mess makes sense in the end : I swear, I'll buy two of his next books to make sure he's somewhat compensated for this bloody nonsense.

As for my in-game character, I'll just pretend this whole silliness never happened. Because honestly, anything else wouldn't make any sense.

As for FD, well, what can I say ? Next time you decide to make a "100%-live-event-with-real-consequences-we're-not-kidding-this-is-a-bullets-proof-event", please make sure a third of your player-base is not exploiting the same Engineer bug *YOU KNEW ABOUT* for *MORE THAN TWELVE MONTHS*.

Thank you.

Sensors are great and whatnot, but it really is a function of the inverse-square law.
X amount of whatever emissions you want to track leave the location you want to find, and spreads out into space, the distances are...gigantic. So yeah, any sensors on a ship can only be as big as the ship at the most.

Course that is a realistic explanation, game wise/movie wise, you can always make up some reason why this can be bypassed. But Elite is more based on realism, and instead the things we've been allowed to see are where locations emit a particular identifiable signal, if such a signal is not broadcast, well yeah. Though I am fully expecting there to be an update that goes "ships can now find locations on their own."

A way around this kind of stuff, would be a probe network or similar, that people could deploy in a system, several small units working together as a big sensor, which could then allow people to find out extreme details of a system? level 3 scan of everything and level 4? basically any 'special' features of a planet?

Agree with this. Rep.
