salvage mission at crash site questions

Hello all,
I need a little help again. I just got a few salvage crash site missions and I ran into some problems. I got to the planet and found the crash site but I am having problems collecting the canisters. I deploy a limpet and it dies. I move back to 150m from 5m and try again. My limpet dies. I select one cannister and the limpet gets it and promptly dies after delivering the cannister. I select another cannister and launch a collector to have it die before getting the cannister. After 17 collectors I finally get the 6 canisters I need. When I am in a space salvage/mining/destroyed enemy ship situation, I just launch a collector and it grabs everything in sight (unless I have ignore stuff toggled) If I have one cannister selected the collector will gab it and die. I understand that. Am I doing something wrong on the ground. Do collectors perform differently on the ground than they do in space? I have "Horizon" not Odyssey.

You are supposed to use the SRV on the ground, limpets are meant for space, and they don't work well on the ground.

That being said, there are methods to use them on the ground (trial and error), flying upside down and finding the right angle for your ship.
In addition, low gravity is needed.

In any case, there is a success rate involved, and it's definitely much lower than 100%.

You can also try to collect the canisters directly with your ship's cargo scoop, depending on how flat the terrain is.

I have heard of people using a small ship and scooping the cannisters with the ship's cargo scoop. Never tried it myself.

Let's just say it's a fussy way of doing things, and the canisters need to be out in the open... Much quicker to do with an SRV.

I run small ships. SRV hangers aren't large ...

Indeed, I have a bunch of small ships with SRVs, Viper Mk III, Mk IV and iCouriers. OP, just be aware that the SRV can collect two canisters before you'll need to transfer them to the ships cargo racks.

Selecting a target for a limpet to collect means once the item is delivered to the cargo scoop the limpet dies, this happens even in space. The best thing to do, in space, is not to target anything and the limpets will the go and collect everything within range, not sure if this technique works on the ground as I've never tried it, but it's certainly worth a try.

they need to be renamed zero g limpets methinks
as mentioned they will only fully function in space (multi no target selected collection till propellent runs out)

I rem the days when limpits an fss did not exist when minor's were real miners...……….. when xplorers were real explorers
when you coudnt just jump a carrier to hutton orbital and flew there in a eagle to get a free conda ;) and real small furry creatures from there where real small furry creatures from there...………………..

Hi folks,

I too require a little edification as to salvage missions, in particular "searching containers" at a crash site for a bio sample.

I haven't done a whole bunch of these so I likely missed something.

On this mission I found a computer core, an intact cargo rack (undamaged with bottles), a com control, 2 yellow chest type "goods" containers (neither locked) and a few items strewn about from the impact.

Suffice to say that when I departed (mission unsuccessful) the only 3 blips on my scarab sensor screen were the empty goods chests (2) and the emptied data core. I blew the hell out of the cargo rack and shot up the coms control to make sure nothing was hiding. I even scanned the dead commandos....

....what gives? Do these sites have bio-samples or not?

All a see on the screen in the upper R-hand corner is a message to "search containers" for bio-sample....but HOW?

If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.

Sometimes the mission is bugged and the item you are sent for isn't spawned initially. I usually go back to the ship, relog, kill the NPCs again and most times the item is now there (along with a new set of extraneous items). Worst case I have seen was it took 5 respawns for the game to finally get it right.

yep relogs are nessar if you want mission objectives to spawn correctly just rem if powering a settlement collect your power regulator before you do

Who needs an SRV, just grab it with ya hands!

No but, I've actually managed to collect ground materials by just opening the cargo hatch and scraping my ship along the ground like a spatula.
Not exactly the most efficient way of doing things but it gets the job done.
Would be cool and comical if, in Odyssey at least, you could get out on-foot and pick it up yourself.

as each container weighs a ton I doubt even on a low g world you could manage it unless of course your built like a brick :poop: house
but I don't see why some srv mats could not be collected @ the forfeit of goods space...…………..
