Salvage missions... How do I pay a pirate not to attack me?

So I've already learned the hard way that you should always carry 1t. of miscellaneous stuff to drop to a pirate not to attack me, at least that's what they demand. Whether or not this actually works or not I haven't been able to try yet. But I know how to drop cargo at least (Although would it be the jettison or abandon option?)

This time however the pirate asked for credits and gave me 10 seconds to comply. I sat there in pure panic wondering "How the do I pay this guy?" Then boom, 100,000 rebuy and 20 minutes wasted.

This is such poor game design that you're going to present a problem and offer a solution, then not even tell me how to access that solution. I sold all my missions and turned the game off because of this bull.

Can you actually pay off these salvage mission pirates and if so, how?

they usually tell you either a tonnage or a CR value to drop, and yes, that works.

but better scoop faster or fit a collector limpet controller for those salvage missions and highwake out.

also check out the mission description and rank - the dispararity between you and the pirate you describe reads to me like you picked up a mission above your rank without being willing to take the risk.

Carry 1t of stuff incase a pirate wants to attack you... or did the pirate only attack you cos you were carrying 1t of stuff..

If you have nothing to take they wont attack, otherwise eject some cargo and run while hes picking it up. Or with all that money you made carrying cargo about put some lasers on your ship, then you can hear them say 'this can all end if you drop 30K of stuff' through the cracks in their canopy

The first time it happened the only thing I was carrying was the black box itself so I couldn't drop that. Now I carry bio-waste. It seems I'll have to upgrade that to something more expensive if there's also monetary value options.

I was only using a little Hauler because I thought it would be simple non-conbat work and didn't want to risk huge rebuys.

Thanks for the help Commanders. o7

The way to do the salvage missions it to not carry anything. Drop in. Target the mission goods. Scoop goods as quickly as possible. Leave. Don't worry about any other goods, they're not worth much anyway.
If you need 2 or more mission goods, and pirates show-up, boost and jump out. You can reacquire a mission USS and scoop again.

Pirates do ask for a cargo drop sometimes. If they do, they'll specify a tonnage, or a credit amount, for that cargo. You may or may not have what they want. They will even ask for cargo when you have none, sometimes.

While you can attempt to figure out what will satisfy them, they won't give you much time. If you stop dead and don't move, sometimes they will circle about, waiting for you to drop the cargo. Other times they will just open fire.

But the entire thing is a bit flaky. Avoiding destruction by dropping cargo is unreliable at best.

Get some good shields and learn escape techniques. Or beef up your ship so you can fight back. That's my advice :)
