Newcomer / Intro Salvage Missions

I am not really new to Elite Dangerous but I did delete my old save and started over so I can see all of the changes and do the newcomer experience. However, how is anyone new suppose to do the salvage missions? Am I just unlucky? I tried to do 4 salvage missions, threat level 2, and so far all I have ran into are locked boxes, the station does not sell the hacking tools, and on top of that about 9, not an exaggeration, NPCs have flown in and immediately start attacking me. I kill the 9 and more come via dropship so I pretty much just run out of ammo because I don't have the money or the materials to upgrade any of my gear and there are NO ammo boxes around to replenish or I am just not seeing them when I am literally running for my life. I run out of ammo not because I am missing but because it is taking so many shots to take these guys down. The only weapons I have to choose from right now is a laser repeater or a machine gun and a pistol since the Maverick suit can only have a primary weapon and a secondary weapon and that is all they sell at the starter station.

Am I just unlucky? I watch tutorials on youtube and so far I have seen nothing like this. Do I just need to do delivery missions until I can upgrade everything? I really am at a standstill here.

Hopefully one of the experts in on foot mayhem will be along shortly but I seem to recall reading that Threat 2 is fairly serious.

First things first, take out all the enemies with the SRV. Stay back at least 50m from the site, and take them out in turret mode. If they get too close, just use a little reverse throttle to keep your distance. Eventually, they will stop showing up. An added bonus to this method is that you will get every bounty, without having to scan them.

The locked boxes are a known issue. It's also very common for the item you're supposed to pick up to be totally missing. In the past 5-6 months, I've seen 2 or 3 sites that actually had the item accessible on initial arrival. I used to carry e-breaches to open all the boxes, but never found the item in any of them.

The only fix I've found is to jump back into your SRV, back away to a safe distance, then exit to the main menu. Once there, go back into the game, clear out the waves of enemies again, and check the boxes again. Repeat this until you have the item. It generally only takes 2-3 times for the item to show up. The most I've had to do this was 7 times, but that only happened on one mission.

You can use ship with rocket launchers, you need 2 - 1st removes shields, 2nd kills.
And you will need +/- good shield.
Then you can do air attack until cleaned.

You can always recharge your shields and restock ammo from the magic blue light emanating from your ship.

You can buy G3 foot gear, there is even a thread for it.

Yes, the on-foot treat levels are a bit wonky. Fortunately dumbfire missiles solve a lot of problems.

how is anyone new suppose to do the salvage missions?

Oh I like those missions. If you buy yourself a maverick suit, try the "grab the thing from the crash site" style missions, to get the hang of it.

I kill the dudes by hand though. Favor legal missions, and low threat level at first. Yeah if you get overwhelmed - you can shoot from relative safety as posed earlier from the SRV or ship. But you might also be interested in shooting them by hand.

You can restock your ammo back at the ship or SRV

Also missions, that say hidden cache are often quiet and uninterrupted sites during the visit, usually. But sometimes you need a fistful of e-breaches for those yellow chests with the combo lock!
