Salvage & Rescue - where to do this? (besides megaship/damaged stations)

I attempted to do salvage and rescue, mostly wanting to do rescue like find blackboxes, lost items, escape pods et.c.

I flew around for hours dipping into degraded signal sources, distress calls and flying across planets and driving around to find crashed ships, but nothing.

I’d find cargo, ships needing repair limpets, a couple cases where I got a mission by audio to scan a ship but no lost black boxes, no escape pods etc.

I went to empty systems, I went to Anarchy systems and I went to system in a state of war.

So what gives?

Am I doing something wrong?

Am I in the wrong places? Or am I just unlucky?

Is the only way to do rescue now to go to the space stations or megaships?

Would love to hear from other rescue & salvage crews out there.

IIRC, Pirate Activity Detected POIs sometimes have a boatload of escape pods.

I kind of make up my own RP for the rescue/Salvage business.
I have an AX/Rescue FDS, drop into an attacked system, smack some scouts up a bit, then go grab some pods from a damaged Megaship.

I'd certainly like to see some more missions based around rescue.

I know of POIs on planets that can have a few escape pods to pick up. And the NHSS's often have escape pods, black boxes and other salvage. But that's about it apart from what you already mentioned.

Sadly rescue and salvage are rather Light on options and modules for our salvage ships.
In DE single sources, sometimes there is tonnes and tonnes of cargo canister, Shame there all marked illegal.
100% profit to be made...

hope one-day R&S will be fleshed out (wishful thinking).
Maybe tractor or some sort of towing device could be added to out Rescue/Salvage Ships.

Mind you I would love to send my crew member aboard to fix/reboot a derelict ship for salvage rights if there are no towing devices.
Plz FD flesh out R&S(y)

Yeah that is the kind of stuff I would love to see.

Love to find a broken ship and then actually salvage it. Like... send over "Salvaging Limpets" or something and they'll harvest pieces of the ship and return to you. Sort of like mining, I guess, except you get ship materials for engineering, escape pods (e.g. pods that are stuck in the ship or crew that didn't get ejected and you save them), getting the black box, personal effects and so forth. For instance you could use a data-link scanner on the broken ship to discover sub-targets on a ship and send your limpets there to attempt to harvest materials. Also be nice if there were some risks such as attempting to get pieces from a reactor core or power plant might trigger an explosion (something like the core mining) which might damage or destroy your ship or modules.

I would also love for distress signals and such to be more "clear" when flying over planet surfaces. Instead of finding the POI on your scanner, landing, driving around willy-nilly and maybe finding something I'd like distress calls to send pings that you could home in on. Finding these pings could be done using things like Detail Surface Scanner on a planet and pings would show up as POI's you could lock on to.

Most of all, rescue missions should be profitable. For instance repairing a ship that has broken down in a signal source 'distress call' only gives you 2500 credits (seriously?) and a minor standing boost.

Finally, when you run across ships that need repairs or fuel... and you have no repair or refuel limpet controller... let the signal source remain in the game for X minutes so you can actually go to a station, refit, and come back to save them. The way it works now is when you leave the signal source, whoops, guess the person died cause you can't return to it.

Tip-off missions - though you don't get many of them - often go to a site with at least some salvage to collect. And salvage data, too, which is often at least somewhat interesting to read.

Ooh! An infirmary module would be kind of cool! Works like a refinery, but can transform injured passengers into healthy ones... 😂

Yeah, salvage and rescue was one of my favourite pass times...

But since signal sources were changed I’m not finding escape pods in space in degraded SS, and planetary salvage is absolutely awful due to the ridiculous ‘noah’s Ark 2x2’ nature of the SRV...

Rare artwork and all that stuff also seems to have dried up, pretty sure you could find rare goods at one point as well...

Treasure hunting is slowly dying out it seems, though void opal mining kinda has that covered. Not the same though...

I don't know what determines if they exist, but every now and then I run across Debris Fields (not sure if it is a resolved USS or what) in a system that often have black boxes and escape pods.

Edit: Just entered CD-77 45, a 9.5 million population system in Outbreak, and there are several Debris Fields here.

Aye, the outbreak state triggers debris fields...

Most just contain a few low quality materials. But you can shop around the various debris fields and some are actually more profitable than a RES for bounty hunting. Just a conveyor belt of pirates mindlessly floating forward into the garbage getting vaporised by the cops. You can just park your ship up and hold down the trigger...
