Same account on steamdeck and Pc

Hay all, it’s been a while.

Do you know if I can play elite on steam deck and pc under the same account?

For example, I’m away and I play on steamdeck. When I get home I can continue where I left off on my pc.

Thanks in advance!

You can play any (as long you are ok with the way a specific game is supported on the deck) Steam game on either the deck or a(ny) PC. So if you're using Steam on both systems, you're fine out of the box.

If you're talking about linking a Steam account on the Steam deck with, let's say, a FD account on your PC, it gets a little trickier. In that case, you'd need to buy (unless you had the game for a really long time) two copies of the game (one on Steam and one from FD) and link both to the same Frontier account. Should be poossible - but plan for some delay in case you need to call for help from FD's support.

That sounds like it will work. No bother buying it on steam deck.

Thanks for replying!

There's no longer an option to link your FD account to your Steam account?

You can also install the FD launcher through Wine (or Bottles if you prefer a GUI) and then add it to Steam as a non-Steam game. This will require you to access Steam in desktop mode.

this is exactly how i play it...... mostly on my pc but on occaision i log in on the deck when doing some fairly mindless stuff.

AFAIK (but I was not affected) FD isn't handing out Steam keys any more if you buy the game from them and/or isn't accepting to use the game you bought on Steam through the FD launcher.
So, if you bought one copy on Steam for the Deck and another copy from FD for your PC, you can't use the FD version on the Deck. Not sure if support can (or would) cross-link the two.

Be aware that your log files and some other files like visitedstars are stored locally, so you won't have access to them all on either device, unless there is a way to copy/update them from the Steam Deck to your PC and back the other way. Log files just need copying, but the visitedstars files need merging somehow.

Journal files can simply be copied back and forth (overwrite is fine). That will merge the history they contain.

The visited stars file cannot be merged. I have no idea if that file is exclusive to the device it's on, so it might be possible to copy it back and forth as well.

It's easier to just keep everything on one device, so that's how I do it.
