Hi Guys,
I've been searching on this forum for a thread that addressed how to use Gear VR from Samsung and Elite Dangerous and I didn't find much info, so I thought to put it into this one single thread as I got it working today.
This guide will work only with NVidia Graphcis cards which support Shield stream. If you don't have NVidia you can try IntuGamesVR or Trinus, but it won't use all the mod cons of the Gear VR headset.
The Setup is actually incredibly simple -
First you need to install - SideloadVR on your Samsung - http://sideloadvr.com/
Once you have it installed you will need to get the certificate and just follow the basic 4 steps on the app. Once you have that done all you need to install on your phone is Stream Theater from SideloadVR market.
Next step is to launch Stream Theater from your apps. When you launch it will tell you to be placed into Gear VR - do not click cancel or the app will close, but place into Gear VR - the app will start.
Once the app starts you will need to type in the PCs IP from which you are streaming - to do so - launch cmd - and type in ipconfig/all
You needs the IPV4 number and it will look something like this - 192.176.1.1XX. Type this number in your Stream Theater.
It will give you a code to type in on your PC once you are connected so just retype the 4 digit code into you Geforce Experience.
Easiest way to get the Head Tracking work in Elite and Stream Theater is to turn on Mouse for head Tracking in your ED settings.
Enjoy - you can now play it in 2D as a large cinema gameplay experience with Head Tracking or you can play it with 3d (Side by side) and just tweak your Theater Settings to your liking for your "VR" experience with head tracking.
As far as I understand the Stream Theater is being worked on to reach full VR experience and as far as I can tell I had no motion sickness or large latency - My latency was around 20ms and I'm using latency correction by Stream Theater and it makes it a superb experience.
massive thanks to the Guys at SideLoad VR and Stream Theater for making this possible. You can use this setup to run any other game as well
I hope this helps some of you.
