Samsung Odyssey: Bad performance in RES

Yeah please do. The big reason why that feature was created was to avoid an unstable FPS. Its similar to if I play a non VR game that howers between 100-120 FPS without VSYNC, and by enable it and lock the FPS to 60 its stays there without any problem because of all the headroom.

Im guess its just the game engine.

@Thuen88

You are running a high res HMD at steam SS 140?! That is why you see the problems you do. For a headset running that res screen you are looking at 100% steam SS,1x SS and 1x HMD. With the settings you already use, that is, if you are after a native 90fps and even then a busy RES will bring you down below 90fps.

According to most people 140% should be no problem. Anyway I guess that's fine, but what about that motion reprojection not hitting a stable 30 fps or 45fps ? When turned off it runs between 70-90 FPS with close to 90 FPS average ?

I run a i7 8700k, 32gb of 3000mhz RAM and a gtx 1080ti with a vive pro, which correct me if I'm wrong is a HMD with the same res as your HMD. You cannot push steam VR above 100% and expect 90fps on a rig at my spec, despite what some, who clearly do not monitor their actual fps, may tell you.

Buy FPSVR on steam and take a look at your GPU / CPU usage while you rock your 140% SS and you'll soon see why not even motion smoothing or the WMR equivalent can keep up.

Okey=) If you force your setup to 30 FPS or 45 FPS with Motion rep, do you still get unstable FPS on your setup ?

I don't, i turn that muck off and aim for a native 90fps. Take a look at your per eye res and think, can your rig manage that res twice, once per eye and maintain 30fps?

As I say, buy FPSVR on steam and take a look at your GPU / CPU usage while you rock your 140% SS and you'll soon see why not even motion smoothing or the WMR equivalent can keep up.

ok so is there any one out in vr elite land that can explain to me in very simple terms. WHY THIS HAPPENS!!

1) I can run native 90 fps in rez sites /etc but will get dips down to 70-80s then back to 90s.

2) when i turn on steam motion smoothing that locks the frame rate to 45 fps how the heck does it still dip below 45 fps when it only dips to mid 70s in native???

sorry to keep asking but im not understanding answers people are giving on this.

Still waiting for that one as well. If the lowest FPS your system can handle is 70 FPS without motion rep, why does it dip below 45 FPS with the feature turned on ?

Guys, could you please provide some screenshots of this happening? Having fpsvr running at the same time would really help. Otherwise your bug reports sounds like "blah blah blah it sucks plz fix!"

SteamVR has different SS settings for Odyssey and Vive PRO. Vive PRO at 100% is same resolution as Odyssey at 190%.

Im to lazy to post screen shots and do not see the point.

i was just wondering why when you pick the option in steam vr to lock the frame rate at 45fps it still dips below but if i run native it only drops to mid 70s.
or if anyone else has experienced this. no biggie tho . i appreciate all the advice tho. thank you to all on this thread.

I found the solution to my problem last yesterday. In the default vr settings my "motionReprojectionMode" : "auto", somehow had been changed to // "motionReprojectionMode" : "auto",. I deleted the // and everything is back to normal. I can't for the life of me figure out why/how that had changed. But, that was the one thing I needed to fix to make the reprojection turn back to auto and work correctly.
