I have been testing settings for Samsung odyssey with elite for about 9 months now. What I have discovered of late is that if you set experience within wmr windows settings to 60hz, not only does Steam VR recognize the hmd as having. 1:1 aspect ratio (1593 x 1593 @100% as opposed to 1427 x 1779 @90hz), it also gives a hugely clearer image within elite dangerous irrespective of any application resolution override in steamVR. Not sure if the resolution change is by design within the WMR environment for 60hz to improve performance(?), but it appears that the aspect ratio has a huge affect on the image quality.
Even if the resolution is overridden for 90hz to give far higher resolution, the text is not as good as that for the 60hz aspect at a lower resolution. There is also poor text quality in the menu windows for 90hz.
Can anyone else confirm this for their Samsung odyssey with the 60hz v 90hz resolution and image clarity.
Is HMD within elite set to render at 1:1 ratio which is why the odyssey doesn’t look any where near as good as it does in other games when at the 90hz setting (1427 x 1779 recognized).
Would really love to be able to select settings within ED based on which hmd (or native resolution/aspect ratio of the headset your using).
I’m running i7 4790k @4.6Ghz, SSD, 16Gb ram and overclocked GTX1070.
If you have similar pc try setting:
WMR to 60hz
SteamVR override resolution to manual override 250% (2519 x 2519)
Set quality to vr ultra
Shadow quality to ultra
Bloom to high
Blur off
Anti-aliasing off
Super sampling to 0.65
AO off
This gives very clear text settings.
Ideally I would love to have this looking good at 90hz at the correct ratio for the odyssey, but for some reason whether it is elite dangerous, steamVR or windows MR settings something is bringing the quality down.... I’d settle for the 1:1 ratio with 90hz too if I could ;-)
If only things worked as they should!
