Samsung Odyssey G9

One of my dual 28” monitors died recently so was looking around as to what could replace it. Thought about another 28” but noticed the Samsung Odyssey G9 was on the market. Although I would have preferred it to have been a 5120x1600, it’s bloody close and has impressive specs.

My main reason for wanting to buy this new monitor isn’t for games, but given Elite is one of three games I play, I’m curious as to what current users think of it.

Any feedback would be great :)

P.S Just to say with my old setup I played Elite on a single 28” monitor, not both

I run a CRG9 49 (5120x1440) and it is sweet, a little stretched on the outer edges (left and right not top and bottom) but other than that I am very happy.
Nice monitor as I was tempted with the CRG9 especially as the Odyssey G9 had backlight bleed issues when they were originally shipped out last year.

Yeah, I read about planets being distorted at the far edges. Doubt that kind of issue would put me off buying such a screen size.

Isn't a 4k monitor better for single monitor use because you get the height, which is more useful than the width for games like ED? What do people think?

I have the big boy 49" and the picture is spectacular. The only issue is elite is not 32:9 so there is some stretch when playing in full screen. Otherwise warm up your wallet and go for it.

For games I prefer the ultrawide however for video playback it looks odd especially BluRay so I have a 4K side screen for that. Also some older titles don't support ultrawide at all so a 16:10 is definitely better there.

If the monitor was just for playing Elite then I’d ideally want a 5120x1600, rather than 5120x1440. So far I haven’t found one :-(
We can only work with what exists, personally if ED supported 5120x1440 I would be in heaven but atm it doesn't so we compromise, each in our own way with our own choices.

None are wrong, all are right.

I mean, the resolution has worked, natively, for years. The barreling sucks around the edges but I've personally run 5120x1440 since the CRG9 was released and used it in title extensively.
