Sandbox mode doesn’t feel like a Sandbox

I’ve gotta say, I’m rather disappointed in the lack of freedom in sandbox mode, it doesn’t feel like sandbox mode, it just feel like franchise or challenge with unlimited money.
Planet coaster did it right, in this sense. The need for power and water, as well as complying with the animal welfare needs is really disappointing. It would be nice if we could choose what we want in our sandbox parks.

Agreed... we should especially be able to decide if things deteriorate/break down over time. The timewarp means I'm constantly struggling to keep the power on, which doesn't feel very sandbox-y. I'd like to be able to build the zoo of my dreams without worrying about the little details like whether or not generator #129 is going to break down for the second time in five minutes.

What's the problem if power or water units are free?
Because they take up space, and it's a pain in the ass to have to place them all over the place just to make sure the water doesn't turn nasty. I'm trying to have a "wildlife park" sort of zoo, with one massive enclosure with bison and wolves... I had to be limited to only one long river instead of being able to make multiple little disconnected bodies of water because the water filter doesn't reach very far, and as big as the enclosure is, I would be unable to place water filters in enough places. Also, water filters and transformers are kind of annoying to have to SEE everywhere.

Also, for sandbox mode, we should be able to manually refill feeders etc instead of having to wait on keepers with ty AI to do it for us. If I want to make a massive exhibit encompassing the entire map in a SANDBOX MODE I should be able to without having to place all the feeders by the entrance so the keepers can feed the animals. I want the animals to spread out, dammit, but they can't bc all their feeders have to be in one spot.

We also should be able to toggle off terrain and plant coverage needs as well. I want to make a pretty exhibit, not be forced to comply with an animal's ridiculous, trivial requirements of "I don't like this plant."

JWE seemed to have a really good sandbox mode, with loads of options you could turn on and off... I'm kinda surprised PZ's sandbox mode would be so limited when Frontier clearly knew what they were doing with past games?

Especially since sandbox mode isn't the new mode, so it's been in development this whole time

Maybe it's because the 'Challenge Mode' is exactly this: new?
I can imagine that sandbox was planned to be the offline mode, with unlimited funds, but still some other gameplay related constraints.

Now, as we have the challenge mode, the restrictions could be considered unnecessary leftovers.
Personally, I couldn't even tell, what limitations (if any) I would expect from a sandbox.

I made an underground bunker with a mechanic/staff room and the power/water.
I then hide those underground everywhere.

Works like a charm

for sandbox i was hoping to have the ability to have to research the items in game, but to have unlimited money, i like having to research things, its a feature i appreciate in this game, but i want to make a laid back zoo that i dont need to worry about money in while researching...

same thing with money to be honest, i wish we could choose a starting amount for Sandbox if we wanted [i think you start off with way too little money in franchise, things cost a fortune, would even accept having more loans to grab tbh.]

i want to build up my park with unlimited money and research items, but then to switch money and research on... it may seem pointless to some people, but thats what i would personally like in sandbox.

More options for sandbox should be included: unlimited money, free power, water never gets dirty, food boxes always full, research all or none, then you can select what kind of game you want. It's a standard feature that is currently missing.

The thing that really bothers me that’s missing in sandbox mode is the option to toggle staff energy on/off. In Planet Coaster you didn’t have to worry about hiring extra staff to overlap the ones that are on a break etc.
In a big zoo with lots of guests and food/drink shops it gets tiresome to constantly check if someone is actually working or if the guests go thirsty/hungry.

I thought sandbox would be more creative. I would like to be able to experiment with enclosures and buildings and watch my animals in sandbox before using them in franchise mode with out having to micro manage staff. Id also love to be able to turn off visitors, if you have unlimited money you dont really need them.

Ideas for customization

1. Money on/off
2. Research on/off
3. Guest on/off
4. Guest needs on/off
5. Staff needs on/off
6. Staff buildings on/off (it would be awesome to have the ability to just have keepers fill food without the need of buildings or even if there could be an option we’re we don’t even need staff and in those instances the food trays would just automatically fill so we can create more of a wildlife feel, doubt this will happen but I’m being wishful)
7. Dying of old age on/off (there is already a disable death, but I would love a separate one specifically for old age while the other one can count for dying of injury, sickness, starvation, dehydration)
8. Turn the need for power off (things will just act as though their powered)
9. Turn the need for water treatment off (water will just stay at 100%)
10. Fence deterioration on/off
11. If they won’t get rid of the power/water treatment as I suggested in 8 and 9 then power-water building deterioration on/off
12. Animal welfare on/off (the reasoning for this is so you could mix and match animals to make it feel more like a wildlife without having to worry about animals being unhappy also just so you can make a normal exhibit but make it look the way you want to without having to worry about the animals not liking it)
13. Terrain needs on/off (this goes with the one above, so you can mix & match animals better and make the exhibits look the way you want to)
14. Hunting on/off + fear on/off (I’m unsure if that’s included in the fighting that’s already in the options but the reason for this is id love to let the whole map be a safari and have all herbivores and carnivores in one “exhibit” and watch them live out there lives intertwined)
15. I’m sure we can’t have no fencing but could you please give us an invisible fence that actually counts as a barrier even if only for sandbox

Sandbox should not = unlimited money, it should = play the way you want to play and we achieve this through endless customization. I’m sure there’s more things that I can’t think of. I’d even pay for this if I had to. Some of the options probably are a lot of work so I’d be willing to pay for it for a “dlc” if we absolutely had to.

I feel that there isn't much customization items available and is quite limited. Yes it's base game only, but Planet Coaster did offer more for the base game.

Frontier always does this. They release their games in an Alpha state. They sell an unpolished product, because apparently it sells. To this day there are things in Planco that are absurd. For example, if you buy a DLC, all those rides aren't behind a Research wall if you Play in challenge mode, and you can't configure it that way either in Scenario Editor for DLC rides. And that's just naming one thing. This overall lack of polish is sad and embarassing. But who cares, the animal and new scenery pieces look fantastic, right? (they do)
And so it goes.

I understand this isn't really the point of this thread - but in the short term you can simply put all of your water and power underground under the enclosure...just tunnel some path underneath it, push in the wall enough, and you can place substations and water treaters.
