One day we will send our nuclear waste into the space
We do this already. As well as the deep-space nuclear-fuelled probes there are also many nuclear-powered satellites that have been placed in orbit around our planet:

It is also interesting to see an illustration of a nuclear-powered probe using large fins to dissipate heat in much the same way as we see used in Elite Dangerous.

We really don't seem to have come too far from this:
It's just the rocks and sticks are way more high-tech.......... but there is no monolith to save us.
That was the basic premise behind the TV series "Space 1999" (aka Moonbase Alpha) or "Cosmos 1999" in France.
Extinction of ignorance before we make ourselves extinct would be better..........Maybe a lobotomy to change the things ?
