Sattellite internet

Does anyone use satellite internet? I've always had cable but I'm moving to an area where hard wire is hard to come by. Just curious as to how well it works, Latency, Connection speed etc.

Bottom line. Will ED be playable with type of connection?

Well I'm your huckleberry here.
Live in the middle of nowhere and satellite is it. In addition I just switched companies - my old one was a dog but my new (Hughes net) is fast as hell.
Solo: Both worked great.
PG: Both worked great...not that I see too many Cmdr's.
Open: Old one blew chunks. Tried Open combat (at a CG) twice and it was slide show and I was quickly killed. Other times just seeing another Cmdr or two seemed fine and sometimes it was jumpy.
New one (about two weeks now) I did a CZ in Open with a faction mate and it seemed fine but too early to tell. Have not tried combat at a CG (or any crowded area) and I may not.
Tend to play in Solo anyway and the satellite (especially the new one) is great. It really shows in the mission and menu boards and during certain scans.

Thanks for the info. At least i now know the game is still playable. I totally play in open, but don't do many CZ's or PVP unless forced too. But i still want to be able too if i choose to do so.

The bandwidth you can get is good, but the latency will much higher than you are used to with terrestrial services, the time taken to transmit up to the satellite and for that to be relayed back down to a ground station means latency.

So in effect it will feel like you are always playing with out of region players when in a multiplayer situation.
