Newcomer / Intro Save options?

You can select "Save and exit to main menu" and "Save and exit" but where is the basic "Save" option? What am I missing here?

There is no direct save, as your game instance is active when in this menu.

Also remember your instance is ALSO active when in the galaxy and system map. I learned this a long time ago when looking at trade routes and was interdicted. There is no audible alarm that it is happening, at least it was like that awhile ago. I have not done this for months. Always do this when docked.

I think the only reason the menu uses the word 'save' is for reassurance that when you are exiting the game you don't have to save it first.

I've been interdicted recently (pre 1.1, I'm at work and haven't played the update yet) while in the Galaxy Map. I was immediately pulled out of the map and into the game to deal with the interdiction (which I'm grateful for, I was plotting a route to back to a station to grab repairs because my hull was at ~10%... it's hard to tell in crowded systems but it looked like the ship interdicting me was a python).
