Saves and Insurance.

May I ask how the game saves your progress and if there is a way to revert to a previous save if I get killed. I have had some bad luck reasently getting killed, then running out of fuel half way through an Autodock and dieing from no air.
Also why are we double penalized with having to spend an insurance price. What happens if I have 0 CR and die?
I spent hours on a mission that I could of earns 2 million credits and at the return of the mission I get 0!!

I can learn to live with this( like real life), just need some advice, seams like the game progress is saved in real time so what you do can't be undone or go back before an issue that happened.

Unfortunately there is no save apart from saving your current state when you log off. There is no way to revert to a previous state. I'm afraid you will have to deal with the loss :(

Yes, it saves in real time. Once done it's done. And just like real life, if you can't afford insurance you probably shouldn't be driving/flying or as we say "don't fly what you can't rebuy". If you die without enough credits for rebuy there is the option to select what modules you get back and what you don't. This could bring the cost down enough to say keep you expensive ship but lose the guns for example. And if you die with zero balance, you revert to stock sidewinder for free or I believe you can get a loan up to a certain amount...I think.

Yea, I will move on, I am still really new to the game although I have been playing X-BTF games for a while since the 90s that is similar, but Elite seams much more realistic

Yep, no way to save or load out of any mistakes...
If you run out of credits you'll be back in the stock Sidewinder again so don't worry there's no game over screen:)

I get this, will do my best to keep the ship re-buy cost covered. Happy to keep learning more newances of the game, will focus on getting my Asp X, only 4M to save:)

It's tough at first but then you'll adjust. I've actually found myself wondering why other games don't have a real death penalty anymore like old MMORPG or RPGs back in the 1990's

Could swear i read in patch notes somewhere if you didn't have the rebuy you would get the option to sell stored ships/modules to cover it (may have been an upcoming patch)

I think I am getting better at this game, got all my core modules on my Cobra maxed to Class A, and maybe 1 or 2 missions and I can get my Asp.:)

if you're allied with your local faction it could be worth opening the passenger lounge and seeing what's on offer, sightseeking missions paid 3-11 million last time i checked

Yep got that coverd, I am doing passenger missions at this time and averaging about 1.5 Mill CR per mission.
I am going for the ones with passangers who are Not wanted.

Always check the re-buy before launching. You can always sell a module or fly a cheaper ship for half an hour to raise the credits for your more ambitious adventures.

I feel that the Re-buy cost should be reduced, the more times you dock, without using it. A kind of no claims discount.

It sounds like you are a sensible pilot already, but here's a couple of house keeping tips that, if observed will save you a lot of trouble.
1.. The first buttons you hit after landing should be the three Rs. Refuel, Restock, Repair. Even if you have VIPs on board waiting to alight, they will have to wait. Do this until it's an automatic thing with you. land, then R R R. That way you'll never accidentally take off with a half load of fuel.
2... Sight-seeing contracts are not practical without a fuel scoop, but normal passenger contracts are. So when changing to passenger contracts - have an extra passenger module that you can swap in, in place of your scoop. You If you have a scoop fitted, use it after every jump - to top up, not just when your running low.
3... When plotting a route on the map remember to check it doesn't end (or turn into) in a dotted line somewhere along it. This means you have insufficient fuel for the whole trip - so plan to stop somewhere en-route, or take a scoop.
4... Have a couple of different class scoops in your modules collection, so that you can call one to you if you need it. Go for a cup of Java as you wait for it to arrive. This way you don't have to take time out of your busy schedule to hunt down a scoop when you really need one. The online trade databases (that also advise module availability) are not very accurate these days.

Good luck Cmdr.

This are Fantastic tips.

Ok so I got my Asp X Wich gives me twice the fuel capacity compared to the Cobra, but yea I must get a scoop. I am going to have to remove a module to install one. So I might change out a cargo rack for one. As to the RRR, I have started making it a habit to refuel automatically when landed.

As to the ploting a course in the Galactic map, I tend to use the fastest routed and be wary of how much fuel I will use. When I have used say 2/3 i switch to economy mode and get refueld at nearest port. I also make it a habit to run the discovery scanner in very sector, becuse I can actuly sell the data to compensate for fuel costs

The Re-buy costs are not to bad. What I did was transfer my class A core modules to my Asp X witch have better stats and are valued higher then the 5E modules. I just have to find Better class 5 modules, any advice on locations for 5C+ Modules? I still have my Cobra and will use it as a Fallback ship.

There are a number of databases still up that cover this type of information. I frequently use roguey for module availability. You can tell it what system you are in and it will tell you the closest place to get the module you are looking for. The default system (IIRC) is Sol

To clarify, start in google, enter '5A FSD' (or whatever class, grade, and type of module you are after) and click on the elite&dangerous roguey link. It will start with any of that class and grade of module available in sol (or you can specify what system you are in) and range out from there

That having been said, none of the Dbase sites are infallible, and other posters here say they are less accurate recently. I also know different station types tend to have certain module types more frequently, for example a mining/industrial station might sell more/higher rated mining gear, but I'm still learning the specifics on that

I'm also running a Cobra, with the occasional jaunt in my Diamondback Explorer.

I always make sure I'm well-covered financially. The quickest way to improve your credits is to jump in the Cobra and hang around the local nav beacon of a populated system, waiting for 'wanted' folk to appear. Take a few out and you could be cashing in 100k+. Failing that, head to the nearest resource extraction site and wait for 'wanted' ships to appear. Rinse and repeat.

I've only got a modest bank balance of 2-3 million, but I always make sure I'm covered should the worst happen. The same goes for upgrading ships. Never splash out with all of your credits on shiny, new parts.

And the previous advice regarding refuelling etc, and getting a fuel scoop is golden. Get a scoop as soon as possible. If you modify and engineer your ship to run cool/cold as well, you'll be able to scoop for longer.
