Savings account!

In year 2015 no one with a brain runs savings and day-to-day transactions on the same account, simply for the reason that you want to be able to do your day-to-day transactions without infringing on your savings.

So why is it that in 3300 or so we have to worry about simple risk management EVERY time we enter the commodity market?

Give us players the tools to decide what risk we find acceptable. Give us a savings account where we can stow away money that are not available on any of the purchase menus - so we can decide what is a comfortable margin in case of disaster.

And for the love of newbies, have a warning on the launch button if you are about to launch without the funds to cover a rebuy.

Can we have a mortgage, kids who need new school clothes and school trips to pay for ? Just to make it even more realistic. :D

I don't think that would work... the thing with the Elite universe is that 'internet' communication between stations is not practical over the Lightyears, so some sort of banking network would inevitably fail.

This is why there is such a vibrant market for commodity trading and message deliveries: If it was all linked by software, we'd all be out of a job! No more courier deliveries, no more private haulage contractors...

Different accounts would make it much easier to keep track about income and expenses though, I am for everytyhing that reduces paper clutter on my desk so i can see the screen again!

It would be great, yes.
Some other related ideas:
You should be able to get loan too with various interests from different places and you should be wanted if you could not pay back in time. Even to the point when you dock with your ship and they just took it from you to reduce their loss ;-)
A storage where you could store cargo would be nice too. It could work as saving too if you put some gold or platinum there... It would also open some new opportunities around trading. Right now, you need to sell everything as soon as you can, if you want to trade. Of course you can fly around for days with the same cargo to wait until the price increases, but I really doubt anyone does that...
