Say NO to Green Chauvinism!

Well, Elite is Sci-Fi, even thou it is pretty authentic i terms of science, but still a Sci-Fi.

With that I completely concur - and admit it is quite the challenge to convey tone and inflection in a forum without writing in phonetics and dialectical marks, which then looks like a strange, alien dialect.

But being that Elite tries to lean more towards the science and a bit less towards the fiction, I find it unlikely we'll see too much in the lines of pastel seas of alien flora.

Granted there are these things:

And they are most certainly not green, but then they also grow in places without atmospheres, and to the best of my knowledge no where near approach what could be mistaken for a forest.
And while tree-like probably have less in common with a tree and more in common with some manner of myconid growth.

But as we lack the in-game tools to actually carry out any sort of actual research, or even a means to take a sample of such things to someone who could put it under a microscope, mass spectrometer, gas chromatograph or even give it a rub, taste, chew test, we're left to speculate at best.

The perfect FAS is all about the skills and flying experience that you bring to the ship that you fly. Push the envelope and don't rely on the basic new player lasers and multi-cannons. The FAS can do so much more. Later on rail guns in a Dolphin are very effective if one has the combat skills to use them. Imagine what one could do with experience in a Corvette...

Earth-like world.

Earth.

Like.

World.

This means that it is...well...Earth-like. It would be reasonable to assume that any life present is not that far different, conceptually, from that which is found here. Including the use of a similar-colored chlorophyll agent. Is this a stretch of imagination? Maybe.

But keep in mind that "Earth-Like World" in E:D is NOT shorthand for "has life (in fact, life is found all over the bloomin' place)." It is a subclass of terraformable water worlds, which are noted (in the in-game description) as having carbon-based life. Which are in turn a subclass of HMC or rocky bodies. Being "earth-like" is simply that the environment and ecology is sufficiently similar to our own that no radical terraforming is needed to make it suitable for human habitation, as opposed to those that are simply candidates for a terraforming effort.

Any bizzare alien ecologies, such as those with radically different plant colors, would probably fall under the "terraformable water world" category.

Hi there, I have a question about Earth-like worlds. Why does there is only green vegetation on them? Doesn't it depends on the atmospheric composition and star class?

SAY NO TO GREEN CHAUVINISM, MORE VARIETY TO EARTH-LIKE WORLDS! )))

I'm not looking for purple vegetation, but a little biome variety would be nice, not the exact same green from coast to coast that we currently have. I've not seen any deserts, snow-capped mountains, fall foliage, rocky canyons (different kind of desert), evergreen green vs jungle green, sandy beaches / atolls, etc. No, it's all just the same plain boring green from sea to boring sea.

Though now that I think about it, purple vegetation might be scientific reasonable for stars of different wavelength!
