Newcomer / Intro Saying good by...

... to the newcomer forum.:D

Hello commanders,

Hagbard here. Just want to drop my two cents on this game before I leave this thread to look for advises. Found I could give more advise now when I can find. But always to slow. Have a job and family.

I'm aboard since about over 1 month and clocking 10hr/week.
This game is THE game! imo . Stumbled over ED during some search about X-Rebirth (old X universer ;-d ). I was hooked immediately, just by the cheer size of the playable galaxy. Picked up on Astronomy in 2011 with my first purchase of a telescope (dob 8") and started to scan the skies. Just wonderful thinks to see and read about. We sure are tiny here on our little blue marble Earth!

I have a lot of respect for the FD team. The pace and quality their putting in to this is just brilliant. I have no idea about coding or programming games what so ever, only do some ladder logic here and there.
I hope Frontier is keeping this going for a long time, cause I will be in it for a long time. It has bugs and glitches but no breakers imo. This week we had like what one major update to 1.1 and right away fixes up to 1.103. I wasn't even online during that so straight from 1.07 to 1.1.03. Now that is progression!

The beginning was hard for sure. Spend the first two days in training just to get the hang of the controls. Pitch/roll , Roll pitch retraining :D . Docking was a breeze. But with some bumps and dings from time to time. We are just humans. Lesson learned. Would never buy a docking computer! ( All tough a auto pilot for SC would be nice ;-). )
First I started to do some missions and hunting. Little trading. Never fly empty! (An old saying in the X-Universe). I felt home in my Sidewinder. Sure it was a little grind but I learned a lot. My first buy was an Adder. Nice little vehicle. Did more missions mostly trading and started to do some mining. Doing that I discovered the Metal industry and found some good trading routes.

Wow, it is time to get the Cobra MKIII. I think now the game really started to get fun. Took on a fight with a wanted Adder. Didn't pay attention to his skill level (why I'm in a Cobra and your are in an Adder). I got this. Wrong!!! He handed me my own . Sure I got his hull down to 7% and mine was at 69% but it was also the moment I realized there is no more space for cracks on my canopy. BOOM. O2 countdown. FSD and to the closest station. Outpost "Hertz Terminal" --> no repair service, sitting in the hanger planning my next step. My life support is stock so only 5min. I had to launch, jump 6.9Ly to Auga, made it to the station. Boosted in with 3sec left. OMG the most thrilling gaming moment I had since I meet GlaDOS ;-) EPIC

Of course I have lost the Cobra. But just once (ran into an asteroid  ) and I had coverage.
I'm a Trader, Explorer, Miner and Hunter. I learned my lessons.

I love it and hope to see some more CMDRs out there.
Fly safe and have fun. And I hope to help others to get going.

p.s. pardon my English, it's meine zweite sprache :d

Don't leave the newcomers forum - it's got a nice, friendly atmosphere. Experienced CMDRs should be helping the newbies out as much as possible. Paying it forward. Theotherforums on here are a lot less friendly, smell of whine and taste of tears.

Haha... taste of tears. That's for sure.
I will not leave of course. Just saying I'm not looking for advise anymore.
Learned a bunch here and have to say Thank you all!!!

Sticking around

I'll second that.

Positive place this. Let's all try to keep it that way and help the newcomers get the best out of the game.

Congratulations! Sounds like you've had lots of success. :) I agree, don't leave here, it's one of my favorite hangouts when I have a chance to browse. My interest in Astronomy (and playing Elite on my C64) brought me to the game, been pondering buying a telescope myself, if I only had the time to use it! Then you mention ladder logic and it made me grin.

See you out there CMDR when I have a chance to play, hoping to buy my Cobra this weekend, but I don't think I could ever get rid of my Adder.

Safe travels!

Hey there,
To be honest I haven't taken the telescope out lately at all. House and job keep me busy. But sometimes I'm just standing in the back yard and scan the sky with my bear eyes and love just to see all the different colored stars. There are some marbles out there. I love to spot the carbon stars in the telescope. Cherry red stars on a black back drop, like a drop of blood in the night sky. Just beautiful.

Hope you got your Cobara yet. The ship is the way to go. Hunting trading it handles all in the mid range. Just need to fit it right. I just parked my MKIII and got a Lakon 6. May be a little early since I don't have enough credit left to fill the cargo hull. But I'm getting there. Grinding. But I get some training in fly this little whale.

Always remember, never fly without insurance credits.

See you out there CMDRs.

P.S. Ladder logic is fun :D
