SC : Summer Free Fly 2016

Star Citizen is free to play for a week!! Has anyone had a go yet ?? What are your opinions on it ??
Prepare for disappointment, their servers (apparently) can't handle the normal load, causing everyone to have low fps, free to play for a week? yeah.....its going to roll over dead, and I'm a backer, I still hold hope, but yeah..it looks great, runs....not so much.

I can't walk around in ED, but you can in SC. In ED I got at least the imagination of busy starports. In SC I see the truth I don't want to see in ED: all empty corridors, bad character animations.

If you can't do it right, leave it to the imagination. It'll fill the gaps.

Fantastic point. I have my concerns about space legs.

Everyone who hasnt tried SC yet should do so. Put down ED for a week and only play SC in your game-time. It should make you realise just how far they still have to go, and you'd look at ED quite differently suddenly. :p

Have you seen FD's procedural crowd generator (first used in their upcoming planet coaster game?)? Its pretty wicked. Replace the art style with ED characters and that should be no problem. Its almost as if FD plans ahead. :)

I own 2 ships in SC and will not play it till they have at least 1 whole system, characters that won't die if not in a space suite in a vacuum, and can't warp through walls. In other words a game that CR said himself will be released in 2014 and isn't 10% complete is not worth anything at this point till they stop selling ships that can cost over $1000 each and a lot of them well over $125. They add persistence so you can buy in game clothes, then put in a 20 minute timer should you lose your ship but hey for just $10 more you can buy your ship back.
.
Sorry it is a money grab now and they haven't done a thing to disprove it. Yet in ED people say what $39.95 on the first expansion release is a price gouge and $125 jpeg ships and people say great deal get them before the price goes up. It doesn't matter the ships are not in game and ships bought 2-3 years ago are not in game buy the new fancy one that won't be in game (because as they say not all features will be in the release) is so wonderful, and Life Time Insurance (they promised to stop after the Kickstarter) but that is only their words, why keep it? Financial accounting where is it? They promised it, but again their promises mean nothing.
.
Stop the madness let them build the game and stop paying for things that don't exist and may never exist.

I'm an early backer of it, but I haven't bothered downloading it since 2.1
Youtube videos of it haven't exactly been encouraging me to try again.

Very good point. Never thought of it from that angle, despite having been running around those corridoors last time I played.
Also reminds me of X-Rebirth and how walking around was handled there. [haha]

Almost makes me wish we (in Elite), can't see into the Control Towers in front of our landing pads. Because those are empty.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
It's definitely worth a try if you're a fan of the genre. (And let's face it - if you're here and you play Elite Dangerous, you are.)

Yeah, it's buggy. The frame rate is terrible. The controls are confusing. However, it also shows great potential, and what you get is actually pretty fun. The missions that are there (only a couple) are voice acted and engaging. They involve both flying and EVA-ing, which I really enjoy. The much maligned flight model has improved quite a lot in the past year.

As others in the thread have said, one day I'll probably buy it because I love these kinds of games but not until it goes live in production. It's great that people are testing it and ironing out the bugs but I'm happy to wait until there's a lot more actual substance to the game (as I did with ED). I don't want to play a bit and be frustrated and disappointed just because it's an unfinished work in progress.

In the interim I'm happy to sit back and watch others play it on youtube to monitor the development progress.

Not really for me at the moment. I'm looking forward to trying it out when they have 2+ systems and a wider gamut of game mechanics.
