SCAN BOMB

Please give us a NPC scan bomb.

Something which has unlimited uses, and when deployed>
Light / Little Power Version - 3 second scan> Scans NPC commander names and ship names for all ships within 7.5km radius.
Heavy / Power Hungry Version - 10 second scan> Scans NPC commander names, ship names, modules & local-wanted status for all ships within 7.5km radius.

This will help out us pvers a lot thanks :)
 
well more like the blue thing the thargoids put out? :)

the problem is; if they give them to us then they give them to the NPCs too... this would be a game breaking bad thing.

so maybe it's a bad idea; i'm just getting dizzy from all the spinning around trying to scan 25 ships in a nav beacon lol
 
Haha, very true. That's why I was curious, I don't think it is a bad idea, but maybe as a utility slot. I personally would rather twirl my brains out than give up a weapon slot. I would probably sacrifice a utility slot on some ships for the ability to "scan all the things" at once though. Maybe not include the KWS though, because then what would be the point of ever equipping a KWS?
 
I think you're meaning probes?

And if so, yeah, probes need to be in game, at least as some kind of scientific instrament for explorers, you would keep a stock on your ship, use synthesis to be able to make them away from the bubble.

plus you can have them for other uses like the OP's suggestion

To be fair thats kind of what I thought you were talking about too. Its just a different use for the same tool. Personally, I think scanning needs to be reworked in the game to be more engaging but thats another topic.

As of now your idea would sound like how the advanced disco scanner works for system bodies and I kind of like it.

I re-read it and I need to change something I wrote- I thought the heavy scan bomb acted like a KWS, but I was wrong. So disregard that part of my post. As for it being like other exploration tools suggested, I don't think it is, nor would I want it to be like those. I'd prefer this module to be strictly for its designed purpose, and have a separate exploration module (scanner/ probes) for that purpose.

On the topic of the Scan Bomb ��- would it have ammo? Or maybe just a cool down? I like a cool down, but that's just me.
 
I don't see the lighter version being very useful, expect (possibly) for PvP.

A variation on the idea could be a utility mount that auto cycles through contacts and does the 10 second scan. The contact selected by the module will be independent from the contact the player has selected. Range would be dependent on grade in the same way as KWS. Can only scan one contact at a time, starting with the closest contact. Once a contact is selected, a new contact will be selected only if the scan completes or the contact is lost. If all contacts are scanned, a new unscanned contact will automatically be targeted and scanned. Basically, a module that resolves contacts for you, while you go about killing that pirate.

PVP and also power play - when all you want are ____ agents and ____ couriers - the names of the guys is more than enough to pick them out on your nav computer.


I had a thought, is that the NPC mechanics shouldn't really be affected since they're always doing "deep scanning" anyway, cargo/passengers/kws in their all-in-one-combined-scanner way ;)

ok I understand that you are tired of scanning all the ships one by one at your reach..

I told myself at least that it would be possible to scan the wings at once .. rather than each ship of the same group independently.

as for the bomb this seems to me too effective.. just like the advanced discovery scanner that has unlimited scope .. but it's something else.

a good idea though I think.. maybe something that will cost more energy.. I do not think it should be default on all ships.

yeah i was thinking cool-downs rather than ammo, i don't think it'll make too much difference either way with or without cooldown.

When i said "bomb" it was metaphorical for the blue explosive bomb the thargoids use; it's not really a bomb, just "bomb-like" in that it reaches out in all directions at once.

a good idea though I think.. maybe something that will cost more energy.. I do not think it should be default on all ships.
agree it should take up probably utility slot and use SYS to use it;
