Scanner Range

Is this one of the most useless keybinds? Does anybody bother to change the range? Once in a great while, when I'm in the SRV it can help to reduce the clutter in the low end. In the ship I usually use the target panel to pick out the items I want to scoop. It just doesn't really do much or add anything to the game.

I was driving around last night looking for mats on the surface picking up distant signals and driving for quite a distance only to find out they were low end mats of which I had plenty of. I really wish that we could do a pulse scan to do a momentary blast that would register in the targets list so we could see what a rock is made of. Maybe at very long range when things are only vague shadows you get the type of signal source and then the closer you get you can tell if it is a meteorite or outcrop. Then, when you are closer and are getting the resolved image lines you could tell what it is made up of. This would really help in a large volcanic field where you are inundated with signal sources. Maybe you enter turret mode and have a F.S.S. style surface scanner mode...

As much as I like the fact that you use the D.S.S. to find wrecks and things on the surface, I really miss not being able to run around the surface and find random stuff. When Horizons first dropped, I used to love running around and scooping up stuff. I made most of my credits that way for quite a while. Now a days, we get 3 or 4 sites on the whole planet and not much reason to ride around in the SRV.

As much as the Thargoid invasion has brought new life into the game, I really wish there was more variety to surface game play and more reason to use the SRV than we currently have. I fear that the game will be wrapped in the invasion for the foreseeable future and that will mean not much else going on. You can say what you want about Star Citizen, but there is a ton of stuff going on down on the planet surfaces.

I miss that too. Exobiology went from few to many, and surface sites from many to few, both with good 'realistic' reasons (for a certain value of sci-fi reality) but surface prospecting for cargo was a pleasurable, relaxing pastime.

I was prospecting on a planet with a high content in something like niobium but I was in a massive volcanic file which only gave low end mats... This happened like 3 planets in a row. I now know not to do surface prospecting in volcanic planets...

I used to find it useful when surface prospecting to investigate the "trespass zones" of those skimmer-guarded caches you would come across. Not come across any of that in my limited EDO surface prospecting so far.

I constantly change the range, it's convenient for me.

so we could see what a rock is made of
