Scanning large and small data caches

So here's what I did. I scooped a large data cache as salvageable wreckage then went to an airless planet and jettisoned it close to the surface. Then I landed, got into my SRV, and dismissed my ship. Then I scanned the data cache using the SRV's computer link equipment. When I returned to the station I was able to turn in a huge amount of exploration data that I know I never personally collected.

Awesome, I've been tossing them because they were illegal!

Cool, I found a large data cache on the surface of a planet a while back, but never thought it'd be carto data. Will try to turn it in and see what I get. I have no other cartographic data to report.

The question is: how does this appear on the Universal Cartographics page? Does it appear as a separate item, or do you get fake "system information" suddenly appearing, for systems you never visited? And if the latter, do you now actually see those stolen system maps available on your starmap?

Interesting. You'd think the ship would be capable of scanning this stuff. Typical. If this is true well done OP for the work on it.

Will test the theory when game has updated,, 2 large 2 small cache's

EDIT: Tested.. Does not work... No new data , no new intel. just sell at BM, nothing else can be done with cache's yet.
