Just two words: Scarab + Racing.
With the 'portals' from CQC and the immense variety of landscape & gravity and vehicle handling being available, it would be a waste of an opportunity not to implement that. Here are some thoughts:
- cargo containers hold CQC 'portals'. These are the race track markers Scarabs have to race through, and they have to be dropped and activated by a Scarab to create a track (guaranteeing the position can be reached by a Scarab racers). This way, anyone can create a new race track on any planet -> an unlimited number of tracks. Think of it as either instant activation on dropping, or activation on remote signal. With the first, you could make an insane jump on a low gravity planet, drop the portal mid-jump, and thus make a portal players will have to jump through. This can make certain planets very popular, simply because of the planet's characteristics
- You set the order of the portals in a (minimal) interface, or the order depends on timing of a drop by one Scarab, or by all in a Scarab wing. That requires teamwork, making track creation more fun.
- Start & end time is set in the interface, and any Scarab passing through is registered. Complete all portals in order = finish the race.
- Possibility: base control of the race -> control of portals (+ portal production?) & registering of bets on racers can be done at a base. Race winnings for racers & gamblers, and a % for the base = income.
- Even viewing a race could generate income, with players being charged a certain amount of credits for coming into range of an active portal.
- Leaderboard options: speaks for itself: a list of the best racers.
As complex as this idea can become, the basics can be very simple: Scarabs dropping portals, setting the order of them, and recording who goes through them within a certain time frame.
