Scarabs have weight?

I'm asking because I'm editing what my dbx will be on the coriolis site. One of the things I want to do next is to go on a long exploration trip, and I want to take the necessities to drive around on planets if I find one that has something or looks cool.

Thing is, while I can put a hanger bay in the build, there's no place I can find to put a scarab. Of course, I wouldn't expect it to take a different slot, since it should be in the bay, buy I would assume a vehicle would have some weight, affecting the jump range.

Ah ha, ok then. Thanks!

Oh wait, where can I buy Scarabs? Or is it another of those eddb things that really depends on what system I'm at?

If you're after bigger jump range, don't forget to engineer some of your modules for lower mass if you want.

Thats for later down the road. I only got Horizons this week, and I want to go planet viewing.

After I return I plan on continuing my Imperial ranking up, and then going after engineers.

Scarabs are treated by the game in the same way as ammo, thus, no mass. The hangars have the mass of the scarab included.

Z...

You should spend the time to get Farseer unlocked sooner than later. The increaded jump range will make everything else you do a lot easier. IIRC you need Scout exploration rank (very easy) and 1 Meta Alloy which you get in the Maia system.

How does one collect materials? Are they weighted space in a cargo rack? If that's the case then I won't be collecting anything.

The materials for engineering don't weigh anything. Just pop open the cargo scoop on your Scarab and drive over the material you wish to collect, it's as easy as that :)

But before you can do that, you drive in your SRV and find rocks using you scanner (listen to the sounds and follow them), once you find a rock, select it and shoot it to get various materials. When they drop, elect one of them and with your cargo hatch opened, drive over it to collect it.

And no, materials don't use any cargo space, you don't even need cargo racks installed to be able to collect them.

No, they don't. Or their weight is incorporated in the hangar mass.

Ahh so I can fit a hangar with no SRV, fly to another station, buy a SRV...& my ship's mass is exactly the same! Errr hmm - just to clarify, then...my hangar incorporates the mass of a SRV that I haven't bought!?

Thanks for clearing that up, Chris!...we can always rely on you to expediently bail Frontier out of any logic anomaly.
