Scavenging, Recycling, and repairs!(White and Grey loot!)

Had an idea to diversify combat loot. Instead of just raw materials we also droop items from ships. These can be collected into inventory at 1 t each and then take back to a station. At a station you can then choose to scrap or repair.

1. Only white items can be repaired. They have a chance to repair(for a fee/currency) and if it works you get the item to sell for more currency. If this is from higher end NPC's it could be very valuable. In the multi million range. This would go into your normal item storage for selling or usage. If it fails it becomes scrap for recycling. Possibly you have to try to repair white items for them to become grey to recycle making a need for personaly inventory in your station(and possibly fleet carrier). This could work just like normal storage and span all stations.
2. Recycling happens with grey items. You recycle them and they randomly turn into any of the 3 types of materials and possibly goods for the market. They can turn into direct materials or possibly items that can be opened like a scan module. You can scan them in the inventory for various scan data. Raw and Manufactured materials can also be gained from this. Also gold and other market goods could be obtained. All of this sold or used.

These items would be rare and happen once in a while and/or seed USS's, or could replace some of the existing loot and maybe exist in larger numbers to diversify loot from combat and USS.

This would open up a profession that is supposed to be in another game. Scavengers!!!

This is where you add station storage(Or a new type of universal storage). You get an amount of station storage like you have with our 120 item limit for modules.

Edit: Loot can have quaulity and chances of good items based on enemy ranking. Either by invisible status or the the chance to drop a white/grey version of that weapon each with better chances of certain materials. This could open up reason to farm various areas and combat zone to farm certain items with certain odds etc. Or farm high end stuff to get good items to sell.

Idea2: This could open up the idea of also having scavenging produce rare items to enhance existing equipment. This could make up for the difference in old modding and new. It could be like a tag on time that gives another bonus/deficiency to an existing set of stats. It could work like materia from FF7 or similar and you put one or two in based on the item or enhancement possibilities. These options could be limited per item type etc for balance. These items represent enhancements like adding in gold wiring for better conductivity or something like in real life. This could also open alternative means to get this by having the same items be manufacturable at some station with high tech or whatnot out of mined or other materials in your cargo hold/storage.

BTW, repairing white items could allow the repair of pre-engineered modules making it easier to engineer and making it more standard if desired. Or they could be recycled for a better chance at drops and materials. This could all be controlled by enemy rank and location. And preferably related to the real equipment the NPC or even player has equipped. Maybe if an item is looted from a player he can't rebuy that module when he does his rebuy. This would make it even more important to not die. Then the only oddity is old pre-engineer change items. This would allow them to be destroyed/passed on or they could be protected until those old bonuses can be remade again with some of the above idea.

If you want simplified statistics per module go beyond white and grey and use a range of higher colors for better recycling/repair odds. Indluding the chance for engineered modules ore more expensive ones. Although I would base it on the modules on the ship to as much of an extent as possible.
