Scenario editor border size

I saw that we can now adjust the border size. Can we make the border bigger than the current size? Can we modify existing saved games with the editor?

I don't think we can go beyond where you notice the ground changes color into the background.. but we can go bigger than the premade sizes we have so far.. which means i can now make my parking lot bigger :D

As for existing saves.. yes.. thats what they said in the stream today and on Schematics

For as far as I know, the current map size is the maximum. But I'm not totally sure as xShadowX says it can become bigger. There is room for terrain adjustment, until you reach the so-called "skirt" which is actually 1 solid object for performance reasons.

And yes, existing saved games can be edited.

I need to replay the livestream again, I probably missed some things.

I did a little research here with the Tropical map as example :

All in all i think the map is expanded quite a bit! Especially in the front side of the map there is a huge chunk of extra land. (Sides are about half of it, but because it's on both sides of the map, its still a lot!

Great research Vampiro. [happy][up]

I suppose they left more space at the front to make place for the spawner grotto.

What we need, is the ability to set certain areas as restricted, certain areas as locked, and certain areas as available. Currently, we can set a park border that is long and thing, or short and wide, but we can not make any other shapes besides a square/rectangle. What about circular park borders? What about S shaped parks, or zig zag parks, or other shapes? What if I want to make a mountain in one area and set that one area to locked but build-able, why am I only able to set the entire map as locked instead of specific areas? We have a grid feature, it seems like we would be able to use that to set restrictions and borders?

Hopefully we can see improvments in that area, along with the addition of purchasing land and setting ownership rights.

During yesterdays livestream I asked about prestige, Bo and the devs said "weve got you covered" and then went on to talk about breakdowns and maintenance... thats not the same thing. I understand if you don't think we should have a prestige modifier in the scenario editor, but please don't call maintenance/breakdowns the same thing [tongue]

Everything else was great [up] just really want parks to have more variety to them!

A circular shaped park border is something I have considered for a long time. Also for SimCity and Cities Skylines. This new generations of 3D simulation games with free shapes away from the square grids. A circle would be a more optimized outline. [up]

Sorry for misunderstanding your question, Breezer! There was a lot to see during the stream :)

What I would like to know, on Vampiros screen captures, you see the area that is editable currently outside the park border that we will be able to expand in 1.4. But the park skirt is terraformed. I’m wondering if the skirt is limited to the preset terraforming. For example in 1.4, if I make my park border he full voxel area, and lower terrain, does he skirt have a weird cliff drop off or does each skirt adjust to surrounding terrain. Kind of hard to explain. I assume the skirt does not adjust. Will be interesting to see if I flatten the voxel area al the way to the skirt, how that looks graphically where the voxel meets the skirt

I think i know what you mean.

Right now, when you change the landscape at the park border, the land outside your park border does not adjust and thus creates weird cliffs.
Ofcourse im not a dev. But i expect that the same logic will apply after the update with only 1 difference, the park borders have moved so the editable area has become bigger.

That's what I was thinking too. Being able to expand and use all of the available voxel terrain is still a huge bonus! I'll just blend the terrain with the static (preset) terrain once I begin to approach the end of the voxel area.

Yeap.. I'm going to do the same thing in a couple of my parks that need it. Can't wait for this though I am still a bit confused on how scenario editor can be used with sandbox parks to adjust all this etc.. but.. will find out next week when i have my hands on it

Well, so now we are getting an official way to enlarge the editable area. But is it just the land that is currently paintable outside the white dotted lines? Or a bit more?

Look at the post i made [tongue]

You have your park borders and outside there you can see a vague change of color. This is where the voxel area ends.

If it's like the rct3 scenario editor, we should be able to load up our sandbox parks in the scenario editor....change the park border size.....then save it as a sandbox park again.

So what, the land way out there is just a fake background? The actual terrain only goes out so far? What is way out in the horizon? Looks like fog, like there could be land underneath it way out there. I was hoping that someday we would be able to use the entire green area (such as on the grassland map) all the way to the horizon. But, if that land is fake and not modifiable then it looks like we will never be able to go out that far. We're still going to be stuck in a box only about a half mile wide. So even if you could hack the files like someone did to remove the restriction on how far out you can modify and build on the land, you wouldn't be able to reshape the land in the "fake" area? Do NoLimits 2 and Theme Park Studio have bigger areas to build on? I saw some screenshots for TPS and it appears they give you a very large flat area to build on, even bigger than RCT3. NL2 the same. But, PC has more compared to those two games content and gameplay wise.

I imagine it like a cast or mold, a pre-sculpted piece of terrain that is probably created as one single non-editable object... and there is probably a "sky box" around the entire map with the sun and moon swapping back and forth
