To quote Edgar Allen Poe - "For my own part, I have never had a thought which I could not set down in words, with even more distinctness than that with which I conceived it."
..... Fell asleep last night having had a rather unwise cocktail of antibiotics, a full dinner and glass of champagne or two. Below is a transcript of what went on:
Supercruised to Freeport - as we all know, it's a den of iniquity and populated by various evil Cannon wielding denizens that delight in the wailing and gnashing of teeth of destroyed commanders.
Dropping out of supercruise at a safe distance, I saw two things that weren't there before. A pair of capital ships.
The radar was alive with sidewinders, fed fighters and vipers going at it hammer and tongs.
The feds and imperials had arrived in force - ships swarming all over the place vying for control of the station. The carcasses of Anacondas were littering the area in front of the station.
As I boosted toward the combat area, I looked across at the panels and saw three factions - "Imperial, Federation and Independent". A flash from the main viewer showed me that the station guns had opened up on both of the capital ships and the station was releasing pirate ships at a rate toward both.
At this point, the dream got a little bit confusing up to the point that the Imperial ship jumped away, limping and I looked left in my control panel to see the allegiance of the station turn to Federal.
The station's guns were offline and Fed fighters were patrolling, mopping up the last of the pirates.
Messages flashed across the top left of my screen declaring this to be Federation Space and martial law, a no fire zone and patrols had been imposed.
I decided to take the Shady Lady out to the Nav Beacon to rendez-vous with the remaining independent "traders" to find the area swarming with a pirate fleet, preparing to jump back and take the station back.
Then I woke up. Damn. Freeport's still an Anarchy.

So - if Frontier can deliver the likes of this one to us once the game is released - and the potential is there - then I'll be one happy bunny. In the mean time, I think I'll take it easy on the late night champagne with dinner.
