General / Off-Topic Schumacher will participate in the F1 Grand Prix this week end

According to the German media N-tv, Mick Schumacher (21), son of Michael Schumacher, will make his debut in F1 this weekend at the GP of Tuscany, on the circuit of Mugello.

Currently second in the general classification of the Formula 2 World Championship, the 21-year-old German driver is already scheduled for free practice on Friday (two sessions on the menu, one at the end of the morning, the other in the middle of the afternoon). It remains to be seen, if this is confirmed, behind the wheel of a single-seater from which team these first turns of the wheel of Schumacher junior in official competition and not during private tests, as has already been the case. Everything suggests that Mick Schumacher will start in the Alfa Romeo dear to Kimi Räikkönen or in one of the two Haas. The Frenchman Romain Grosjean or, more probably the Danish Kevin Magnussen, the two titular pilots of the American team, would then give up his place in the tub to the German for one of the first two free practice sessions. :)

I watched him, in last weeks F2 race, he was leading and so not a real judge of his skills. Ralf, Michael's brother, was a bit of a let down, but I think the younger Mick might have some of his fathers talent. He is racing for Ferrari in F2 and the car seems to be a lot better than their F1 effort and they will definitely worship the boy.

Any idea, where they will be showing this event, if at all?

So, a drive for the young Schumacher may be available with the Haas team this coming weekend. After Romain Grosjean chose to test the safety limits of F1 racing. Well as long as Haas can build him a new car.

Personally, I feel that this is one crash too many, for the young French driver. He does seem to have far too many accidents, mostly of his own making and Sundays' incident is a prime example of this. Given the choice between, slowing down, like the pack in front of him, or making a dramatic and clearly dangerous move, he chose the latter.
Yes, there will be some that say. 'Wait a minute, he nearly died and I should be showing more respect.' Well no. He drove across the path of another car and hit it. He was still accelerating, at that first point of contact, even though he was moving at around 140mph. He is clearly a danger to himself and others and he only survived, due to the work of others like Sir Jackie Stewart, Sid Watkins and many others over the years, to make F1 and other racing cars, as safe as they are today.

I do however, have to question metal and construction of that Armco barrier he went through. In theory, it should have kept his car, track side and not 'split' like it did. If you look at the damage from the other side, you can see that the centre section broke and folded back, allowing the car to pass through it. The Halo, (which ironically Grosjean, voted against) really did its job and saved him from decapitation. It appears that the cars roll bar stopped the rest of the car passing through, thus, ripping the car in half.

At this time, we don't really understand the cause of the fire. The fuel 'bag' which is made of a Kevlar composite, should not have ruptured, but it clearly did and this needs looking into, because if it can happen once, it can happen again. I would say that, like the wheel tethers, which were 'shredded' as the car passed through the Armco, the bag did the same. Again, questioning, was the Armco barrier up to the required standard?

Grosjean has the reputation of being a kamikaze.

His contract with Haas ends in 2020 and will not be renewed.

I wonder if another team will welcome Grosjean in F1

I wonder if his vocation would not rather be Stock car racing.

Romain Grosjean declared today :

"There is a feeling of being happy to be alive, to see things differently and also the need to get back in the car, if possible in Abu Dhabi, to see where I am, to continue driving, and not to finish my story in Formula 1 like this."

It seems that this will be Grosjean's last season in F1.

British driver Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is positive for Covid-19 and will therefore be forfeited the F1 Sakhir Grand Prix from Friday to Sunday in Bahrain, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and his team have announced.

So now who are Mercedes going to put in his car?

The whisper is George Russell. Now this could be very interesting, because that boy can drive and he is not a stranger to the current F1 cars. If he can stay close to, or better still, do better than Bottas; then it will prove that Hamilton's success, is down the the car and not just the driver. With Bottas already having a secure contract for next year, lets hope he takes Russell under his wing and gives him all the help he can.

Grosjean said he will call all the F1 teams to ask them if he could be a replacement driver for next season.

He puts on standby the future in IndyCar but do not give up the sports car.

The majority of drivers who miss death, always take the wheel again.

I think that most of the teams, have done all of the crash testing they need to.

Has anyone seen Russell's time in P1 &P2.

Honest governor, its not the car; George Russell is an outstanding driver, just like Hamilton.

No, I don’t watch F1 anymore since the Grosjean accident. :)

Its OK, Grosjean has retired. F1 crashes have been reduced by about 40%.

It was the dummy fuel cap, (there is a hole both sides to put the fuel filler) that popped off and emptied the fuel tank.

I still think that the Armco, should not have spilt and let the car go through it.
