scientific samples oh my!

So I recently decided to start playing elite dangerous and of course I went with the idiotic decision of doing pve piracy because pvp piracy is mean, it's still ok I just don't prefer it. I have nothing against those who do. Anyway I know you can stalk outside of stations waiting for exports and I know that npc miners carry minerals and metals that they would find in the mining ring they are at but none of that really helped me. Then I went to an anarchy system and a prison colony system and I came across a few scientific samples I robbed an npc of 25 of these and made 2.5 million credits just from that one ship. I've found a few more npc's carrying these things and they are worth somewhere around 130,000 credits each. I've managed to make 10 million credits on pve piracy over the past few days but I'm pretty sure I've encountered those npc's purely based on luck. Is there anyway to figure out which systems will have freighters filled with this stuff?

I can't help you with that particular commodity, but I do want to add that I've also noticed lately that the cargo NPCs are transporting nowadays are far more profitable. I'm guessing this changed many months ago...I just didn't notice until now. Probably going to be "bad" next time I log in. ;)

Yup, changed quite a bit ago, was the change related to them carrying cargo appropriate to system/route/import/export, and it makes NPC pirating _VERY_ profitable, yet for some reason we keep getting the 'piracy is dying' kind of threads, now sure they may mean pvp piracy.....but even so.

I did not know this... I might have to call my home port station and have them clean off my A spec'd Clipper... :)

My current favourite is relieving weapon dealers of their merchandise in systems at war. When I can find a suitable Anarchy system I don't even get a bounty for doing it :)
It's not quite as lucrative, about 3-500k Cr, but satisfying.

this is true it's now much easier to find frieghters who actually have good loot now then it was before December. Frontier deserve props for the fixes they made but at the same time I still feel like I have to wait forever for that loot to show up do you have any pointers? and yes I've noticed that smugglers are more likely to be carrying scientific samples but it's still a long shot to find any.

You can just go to a station or anything and find and stalk an npc.

this is true but how do you find the systems that have all that high value cargo because I have been trying to find something good and can't, for instance I went to a an agriculture empire system that had a high supply of imperial slaves but unfortunately they were also exporting a bunch of other goods which made it difficult for me to find an npc at a station that was carrying imp slaves.
