"Scramble Spectrum" - what's the point?

"Experimental upgrade that allows hull strikes to potentially trigger random malfunctions on the target"

Sounds kinda interessting, but it seems to have no effect on NPCs and why is this effect specialised on disrupting worse at "triggering malfunctions on it's target" than everbodys darling "Thermal Shock" - Even after nerfing the heat meta.

Thermal Shock disables or even destroys the targrets modules while it's shields are still up sometimes and forces the enemy to conserve it's energy usage to not overheat.

Meanwhile Scramble Spectrum only works after you peeled of the targets shields, disables one module at a time and only for a few seconds...

I just don't get the point.

I does have an temporary effect on NPC's, you can see some malfunctions they cant boost, weapons keep firing, eject all heatsinks etc
The NPC's just don't get worried about and keep fighting under all circumstances.
If you want cause specific malfunctions, target the module, try powerplant - sometimes it reboots, try chaff - all ammo eject at once lol and so on.
And ofcourse it works only if shields are down.

Yeah, it certainly does have an effect, just remember that you're not always going to get the malfunction you want, or the malfunction that is particularly visible.

I love scramble spectrum. Have plenty of them in my little fleet.

I once confused an NPC pirate Adder with one. I think I must have hit his cargo hatch. He dropped his cargo and stopped. I didn't have the heart to kill him (didn't have much of a bounty) so I just left him alone and carried on with my journey.

Hmm. I think I have to change my outfit to 7 rapid fire turrets to get something out of it.

But honestly Thermal Shock seems to be so much more effective, as the enemy usually is a glowing brick within seconds.

I think for PVE it has limited usefulness. It's more of a PVP effect - reasonably useful against hull tankers e.g. FAS, Dropship. I've sometimes had a small turret with scramble spectrum on the corvette.

While the psychological effect probably makes it more effective in PvP, I still love it in PvE. My 'conda, 'vette, FAS, FGS, etc all have a pair of small lasers with the effect.

Seeing a target tumble helplessly makes it all worth it.

Works most obviously on the smaller ships as there is a greater chance that any module is vital. Love it, more for the humour rather than effectivenes and wish it was available for beams somehow.

I have a pair of turrets on my Anaconda with this, and they regularly cause NPC's to lose thruster control and tumble. While it's not particularly "meta", it's hilarious to watch. :D

I also have missiles that impart heat on the target. But they seem ultimately pointless really. Lol

I quite often see the NPCs spinning wildly in space like the old days due to my scramble spectrum strikes... My favorite laser effect by far

You know, I've been wondering myself how these two effects differ?

I feel like it could be a PvP Meta play. Two rapid fire pulse disruptors with the effect that hits through shields, two more with scramble spectrum for when shields drop. And something else to wreck the hull / modules like a huge hardpoint. Malfunctions everywhere and easy vulnerability.
