I am brand new at this game. Tks to your help I got my game to start by using the space bar to select auto launch. I start training and flying the beginning training flights. I have to go through 21 targets i guess to go to the next training mission. Three time now I have gotten to 15 targets and then my screen locks up. Only way out I found is to shut down my PC and when I restart the game I have to start from the first target again. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Newcomer / Intro Screen is freezing/locking up

I don't know about the locking-up issue, never experienced that. However, you don't "NEED" to complete the training tutorial. Just select "Skip Training" (or words to that effect) on the menu (Esc or P* brings up menu).
* NOTE - there is no "Pause" in the game, it still runs in the background with the menu on screen. Only at the Main Menu does the game not run.

You're much better off doing what the cmdr above me stated and then just learning stuff in the basic sidewinder ship they start you with. Also, just in case you somehow missed this before now, NEVER fly a ship without being able to cover the cost of the insurance rebuy. It will ruin your life. Best of luck!
