Scripting the ship's computer

Part of the following has been posted by others, elsewhere, slightly differently.
It would be nice to be able to buy AI chips or some HW (maybe SW upgrade too) to improve the ship's computer in various ways.
Eg. you want to trade like a pro, you could buy an upgrade which would not just automatically tell you where you could sell your current cargo for the best profit, but also tell you where to go to buy something at low price. I do not wish to have a fully automated profit maker solution here, so we would still need to decide what to buy to have the most profit, but some more info would be nice. I know this is basically the same as the remotely access trade info, but I feel the module/upgrade approach better than a global change.

Also, the computers have been made to help people, I do not think the challenge should be to do not so interesting tasks again and again which could be easily automatized if you have given the right tools.
Writing down prices, comparing to other stations' prices is one of them. It might be fun in the beginning, but not on the long term.

I have a more advanced / hard-core approach on that: a programming interface and a well documented API to the ship's systems. Mainly to gather informations and display them where you want them, but if I could control anything on my ship, I do not think I would mind that :). Eg you buy a service which provides you trading data, then you create a script for your computer which would automatically do the price checks for you, etc. The API should also include the ability to customize your HUD. You want to see numbers instead of bars? You want to see your target's bounty (after you scanned) above your target's marker in the space with big yellow jumping numbers? No problem, just change add line which get's your target position on your HUD, then dispaly the bounty above it. Or do you want to have a smart docking computer that does not dance with your ship during docking? Etc.

A whole new market could be opened around this if we could buy/sell such scripts within the game. Those who knows how to code could enjoy creating cool scripts and others could buy them, so that could be another way of income for some.

I'm not sure if allowing a complete control (truster, weapons) over the ship through scripting is a good idea though, but for me it sounds really cool to fly with a ship which is fully controlled by a script I made.
I do not think it would be possible to create an "AI" which would have any chance in a fight against even an NPC, but who knows?
I guess it depends what you could do with it. The main thing here is to let the players to focus on bigger things (like helping a faction) and let the machines to do the smaller tasks. They are good in that.

This game has so much potential and could be something huge with time.
I hope we all have the patience to wait for that.
