Horizons Seamless planet entry....

Will there be any improvements to the seamless planet entry's as currently compared to other space sims out there Elite is not entirely seamless we have to go through the orbital cruise phase then the glide phase, but we are still getting lag which in turn is not seamless, really When you consider game as Star citizen or no mans sky, and infinity as well as a couple of other's out there, all these games have seamless transition, so my question to frontier, if i may will the seamless transition be improved soon fo a much smoother ride into the planets surface.

Neither of those two examples have demonstrated seamless transition in a real network environment.
This is the key element which causes lag in the transitions, the transient network conditions.

If anyone had the patience to travel in normal space speeds from surface to orbit; they would see that it is seamless.

EDIT: A good example time lapse...

The 3D (model of) Galaxy is seamless .. the delay is for networking. When you drop into normal space (either a random spot, orbital station or surface base) the game is finding an instance to put you into, checking if there's anyone else outside the station already. I imagine Frontier are constantly trying to improve the drop rate and the way their netcode finds players to share instance with you.

I've seen this put forward as a reason several times - it makes sense for Open/Private Group - but why then is there a pause in Solo?

Also, interesting to note that in Infinity Battlescape everyone will be in one single instance (not sure on user cap) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyMN0RU_R1c

Also look at the model implemented for Dual Universe. Single shard, no instance, instant entry/ re-entry. I doubt it has anything much to do with network conditions given the fat internet pipe I have at home, plenty to do with the instancing model which will haunt Frontier till the end.

One way to get around it would be to make it happen in a transition period, right now you just stop or freeze when it happens, so you clearly don't get the feeling of it happens fluently.

Haven't seen you on the forum since early 2015!

I know, so explain to me what it is doing during that pause then (in Solo).

AFAIK pretty much exactly the same as with PG/Open, it just blocks other players in the end. But you still create an instance with everything in it for example, even if noone can join and there is no other instance anyway.

exactly right it's almost like a mini loading screen, im sure they can work on this to make is alot smoother, just seems forgotten about now so hopefully with enough cmdrs asking this same questions hopefully something will be done, esp: as other space sims seem to have no issues in seamless.

CAN I SEE A POLL COMING ON.. :)

When I first did a planet entry when Horizons was in beta the approach was seamless and I thought, wow this is it, but it only happened like that a few times. These days it usually isn't that bad for me.

I remember showing someone the game for the first time - when he experienced the pause during the transition to glide mode he said "what's happening, has the game frozen?". This must be what many newcomers think. In fact I remember seeing recently a newcomer posting about this in the support section assuming it was a problem.

I wonder if Frontier really appreciate just how crap it is.

I think they do. They are improving on that. With 2.2, at least for me, it got to the stage where it is seamless and only pauses for a short moment when there are other commanders in the instance, be it station or a planetary base.

It seems to be a quite complex problem. I've seen people wit SSD have it, I have seen the i7 do it and even fast connection with virtually no ping won't save you. And then there are people playing on three years old laptop via LTE and their transitions are flawless.

I hope they will figure it out.

I guess with the advent of the the newer seamless planet entrys in space sims its all the rage, even no mans sky was pretty cool at least for seamless entry anyhoo...
