Search and Rescue

I'm hoping it ties more in to rep, that would seem sensible.
That and role play, always brought back those escape pods from exploration trips.. Couldn't very well leave them behind!
 
The things currently seem to be
A) the reward isn't given for SAR tasks. You can hand in at a Station Contact but there is no 'Sell' there is a 'Donate' button.
B) SAR will have crucial meaning in and near the Pleiades because Tahrgoids thend to scoop Occupied Escape Pods where they can find them.
Hence Rescue can get a fully new meaning.

Beside that its currently more for the wealthy ones. Because you don't get any money from that activity directly. Maybe you can combine with exploration
and bring back the lost.

Yeah. FDev. Seriously. Salvage. Space salvage. It's the coolest profession possible in a ship-for-hire Firefly like game. Improve the rewards pls. And give us some additional goodies like a 5% chance that there will be a VIP in the pod and we will get a couple of mil.
 
Wasn't there a screenshot in one of the early sneak-peeks (around the time of Lavecon) which showed some kind of S&R progress (or did I imagine it ... I had been drinking at the time). Whatever happened to that?
 
SR agents seem to be more of intro of mechanics than fleshing it out. It is mostly due of more escape pods floating around in space, they are now legit scoopable and deliverable. There *should* be missions, but I haven't played 2.4 that much to confirm that they spawn somewhere I am visiting though. FD might need to clarify this part.

I expect this to be added more during Beyond. It is nice simple mechanic which needs to be extended, as assets are all there, and all it needs connecting all tissue over bones.

Yes, the button says 'Donate' not 'Sell', but you still get a reward.
Admittedly it's a pittance, but you do actually get paid.
 
Additionally I wouldn't want escape pods to have big price tag for rescuing. I would prefer them to spawn either mission branch, or some info bit that might be useful, material rewards....something more substantial and personal.

Scrap however could be just direct 'black gold', sold in credits.
 
This might be really ill-thought out, and I know it's generally considered a bad thing to introduce more RNG into the game but...

How would you guys feel about FD changing it so that you still only get a small token reward for handing in the actual escape capsule, BUT there is a small chance of receiving a large cash reward at a later stage when one of the capsules turns out to have been carrying a wealthy traveller who later wakes up and is grateful for your help? They could also tie it to large boosts in faction reputation (you rescue someone with powerful connections), or even better, leading into lucrative chained missions.
 
They will evetually have to give in and put missions in place for it.

The same mission structure that works for Black Box missions would work perfectly, "last known position of a troop transport/civilian transport/ squadron operation behind the lines was in X system, we have not heard from then in some time, so go scan the nav beacon, go find the wreckage and bring any occupied escape pods home to safety. Be aware that there may be some freebooters looking to up their kill tally by picking on rescue craft."

And of course like black box missions part of your reward is the random flotsam full of engineering materials you can haul in.

Since the structure for rescue missions is almost entirely in place and all they need to do is replace Black Boxes with Occupied Escape Pods I can't imagine this taking an enormous amount of effort by FD. Come on guys, my home system is in conflict and this would be a GREAT time to get this done.

For the record I'm not suggesting a reward commensurate with black box missions -- half that would be fine. I'll take my reward in Rep, especially Federation/Imperial/Alliance rep. Searching and rescuing downed pilots should be the sort of thing that really helps your rep with a superpower as well as a minor faction.

Wasn't there planetary S&R missions already? I would want something for space too. And overall yes to more S&R missions in general.

Increase the selling prices, add a salvage mission board to the salvage contact, allow mining lasers to mine scrap from ship wrecks, and viola you've got a pretty great feature for pilots to enjoy!

Yeah, this +100. I really hope they lay down some hours for this in Beyond. Should be some very good low hanging fruit to reach.
 
There seems to be some search & rescue missions in the game, they just aren't flag-posted like the missions on the bulletin-boards. Can't remember which system (somewhere in Pleiades) but I read on local system Galnet about a missing professor who'se last known whereabouts was orbiting a planet. So I headed for the planet, found a listening post and got some more info. I then found some wreckage and some occupied escape pods - I wasn't sure if this was the actual professor or just some random Thargoid wrecks. I got distracted and forgot about it until now.

But I'm hoping there are more such events - finding clues, random encounters etc. as well as actual bulleted missions. And, yeah, would be great if returning the pod let to more interesting rewards - rare materials, cargo, follow-on missions, maybe even a small ship?
