Search for locations

Hi to all my fellow travellers,

im new to elite Dangerous I've just purchased it on Xbox one, wish I had PC as it's difficult on Xbox. But anyway it's awesome. I have a question that's bugging me. I watched YouTube vids on Elite and the guy has a PC he wanted to jump to another location/station and he typed it in and there it came up, how do I do this on the Xbox? Or can I do it? Puzzled

Well i don't know how much the interface on XBox is different, but in PC you lift the console on the left side, select galaxy map, then there's a tab called navigation with a search box in which you can type the name of the system. Don't really know if it is the same on xbox...

Thanks for reply, I've saw that on the YouTube vid but cannot see it on Xbox, I've sent off an email to developers just in case it's in the pipeline, as it does say it's a work in progress, I must say the Xbox game is full of bugs hundreds of them

You can get clip on thumb pads for the Xbox controller. Effectively a little keyboard. Perhaps that's what they expect you to do?

I had one of those pads for Xbox 360 unfortunately cannot get one for the Xbox one, as I am using wireless dongle in the place that keypad would sit

You can also just plug in every USB keyboard, the X1 does indeed support that.
That's a thought a USB keyboard may just be what I needed thanks

The only thing is that I don't know if Elite already supports that, I know from when I had my X1 I could type in the browser/dashboard etc.
Now if Elite accepts a keyboard is another story, if not then a friendly note to FD that that's a missing feature might help.

Just been reading online that X1 supports wireless (not Bluetooth) KB's so my next purchase is set in stone, I've also read that you can use Xbox glass via iPad to input, I may give that a go , thanks all for replies

Isn't there an overlay software keyboard to be used with the classic controller? I've seen somebody log in the game like that on Youtube.

EDIT: This thing

That's a great idea, at least smartglass (I think that was the name?) will work in Elite for sure. I used that too on my phone for other games.
Since the app only uses buttons the Xbox already knows and portraits on screen that would have to work definitely!

Glad if I could help and have fun.

Yep, that is exactly how the Xbox and also PS make keyboard entries. But of course it is much faster and smoother with hardware to type on rather then a virtual keyboard and the D-pad.
