Engineers Searching High and Low for "Adaptive Encryptors Capture"

As the title says, I'm desperately seeking the elusive "Adaptive Encryptors Capture". There is really very little known about this rare material species. According to other searchers, it has been known to show up during planetary data scans and/or some satellite scans in certain USSs. However, in my quest to obtain this sneaky creature, I have had no luck in any of these places so far. If any of the other good Commanders here could shed a little light on maybe turning up a few of these creatures I would be most appreciative! Any information would be helpful such as recent appearance locations, type of USS, etc.

Thank you all!

Granted this requires stacking/board hopping to really be fast, but if you go to Quince and run the planetary scan missions and keep scanning all datapoints until they all go inactive when you make the run, you will literally be throwing them away. They have an extremely high drop rate there, I currently have 60 that I can't bring myself to shave down because they're marked as "very rare" and my mat hoarding nature won't allow it....

That's where I've been running scans. It seems the missions are kinda few though. I may get anywhere from 2 or 3 to no more than 5 or 6 and no amount of board hopping or waiting or re-logging lets anymore appear. I've taken all the missions available, and waited as long as overnite and still no more until I comlete the few it originally gave me. I've also done enough already that I'm allied with the controlling faction and they are really the only one that's giving any missions at all. The other factions might pop up with 1 extra scan mission from time to time or a donation mission. The only thing that shows up pretty much is donation missions until I complete the scan missions it gives me. I go and do those and as soon as I scan the datapoints at the first outpost it completes all the missions. I do get quite a few mats sometimes but so far no Adaptive Encryptors. I just fly back and turn them in, then I'm able to get another handful and rinse and repeat. I know it's pretty much up to the RNGesus as to what I get out of it, but these have to be the hardest mats I've tried to get. They are also the last group I need to do all of my planned upgrades on my ships. I only need 7 of the stinkers so I had hoped it wouldn't take that long. But alas, it's taking me longer to get these than about all of the others put together it seems! Good thing is, since I started back to playing after Commanders, I've had a blast unlocking all the engineers/ plus by gathering all these various blueprint mats I've really enjoyed playing all aspects of the game that I probably otherwise would never have done much with. I don't think I had ever drove the SRV until I had to gather mats. Now I've gotten pretty good with it and never use drive assist on it and hop around all over the place like a dune buggy in the desert!

Thanks Cmdrs!

Hmm, I mean I was there like last week and stacking em til the game said I could stack no more. But I was watching TV while board hopping so I'm pretty persistent as I'm still entertained. I don't know why you're not seeing more. Yeah I play from Xbox Preview up until just before Horizons launched, and then just came back a few weeks ago and actually I have enjoyed the engineers more than most seem to. Some are just a pain (looking at you 500 tons of mining), but finding surface crashes to get mats and stuff is pretty intereesting

That's exactly what I was getting at as far as gameplay. I tried mining waaaaaaay back when the game was first released even before we had all the limpets and stuff. I found it very boring and tedious to the point it was really no fun at all. I quickly ditched mining after a couple hours of trying and never went back to it. Back then there was a lot of talk about "tractor beams" or something similar to help gather the fragments and eventually the limpets made there way into the game. By then I thnk I had quit playing and didn't pick it up again until this release of Commanders. I kept up with the game updates and always checked the patch notes whenever a new version was released. Thing is, I probably would never have tried mining again if I didn't have to to unlock some of the engineers. Things have definitely improved! But that's how long it had been since I had played until now.

I'm getting ready to hit Quince again tonite and see if things have changed any. I believe it's showing boom state for me, but I also think that's just the controlling faction. I know 2 of the other factions are in a civil war so I don't know if that's got something to do with the lack of missions or not. It's not that big a deal really since the planet is literally right next to the station. It's not like it takes forever to run back and forth a few times!

Cheers!

The factions at war should provide more surface scans, not less. Civil War Surface Scans and Counter Insurgency Scans or maybe it just the Civil War ones. Anyway they will definitely be there. Also, it is extra cheesy but extra speedy to go down in a Suicidewinder (no shields and max thrusters with a cheap rebuy basically), scan and then faceplant on the surface for a 100kish taxi ride back to the station.

Hey Cmdr Thrive,
Thanks for that tip about the 'winder! I'll have to remember that one. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong in the last hour of doing the scans. I NEVER realized that some of the data points were "overlapping". I thought they were scanned one and done. I mean, when I would scan each node at the POI, it would complete all the missions I had taken so I thought I was done. I didn't realize the nodes were basically "on top" of each other. Bascially I wasn't scanning hardly any of the nodes. I noticed this just a bit ago. I scanned a node, it went "inactive" but I happened to retarget by chance and noticed it appeared to be "active" again and allowed me to scan it again therefore giving me more mats. After watching how it worked, I noticed what was actually happening was if I had say 5 scan missions, 3 of which were "planetary scan" and the other 2 were like " civil war scan" there would be 2 separate nodes at the base. 1 for each type of mission. There were actually 3 of one and 2 of the other but it was like they were "superimposed" over each other and I didn't notice that. So I have been only scanning each one once and never paid attention that they weren't going inactive! I hope this makes sense for someone that may be making the same mistake I was.

Anyways, after realizing there were a larger number of nodes to scan instead of just the 1 or 2 that I was "seeing" I got all my critters in one go! Thanks much to all who have commented and helped! Now off to the engineers to spend all my hard earned mats and sacrifice them all to the RNGesus! Rep for you and Hammerhead!

Cheers!
