Season 39 Squadron Results - graphs and analysis

On each graph, points are on the Y-axis, and squadron position on the leaderboard is on the X-axis. Both scales are logarithmic. The light grey line (diamond marker) is the numbers for the previous measured season. As in previous seasons, the approximate power-law distribution continues allowing estimates of total activity to be made without spending too long reading the boards. Results are based on late measures of the current season boards due to known bugs with the "last season" boards, and so may not reflect final outcomes exactly.
(Political is excluded, because there are well-known exploits to allow very high scores, and because it's not clear even without the exploits what it's supposed to be measuring: the in-game description of "large and happy faction" is clearly wrong - possibly this will change if they ever implement BGS happiness properly)


Anti Xeno (272 pages)
Winners: The Order of Dripnificence, Anti-Xeno Initiative, Dark Echo
Season 39 saw Raijin fall, and the start of the attack on Cocijo. The total activity is somewhat up on Season 38, though there have been busier seasons.

Combat (904 pages)
Winners: The Order of Dripnificence, Dark Echo, Stellanebula Project
As with last season, a lot of correlation between the high AX and high Combat squadrons. Again, activity is notably up, for the busiest Combat season since the start of the Thargoid war.

CQC (28 pages)
Winners: We Rock You Roll, Romanian Special Division, Romanian Elite
The same top 2 as last season, but a new Bronze trophy winner. Overall activity is the highest since the discovery of the "last season leaderboard" bug in Season 25.

Exploration (980 pages)
Winners: Endurance Exploration, Nova Navy, Toads Intersystem Trade Services
A substantial increase in both page count and activity - especially among the top 10 - also sees some new names on the list. Total pages and activity levels are among the highest seen (without CG boosting) since season 25.

Powerplay (99 pages)
Winners: Lavigny's Legion, Aisling's Angels, Elite Branch Annihilation
This - finally - is the transitional season, with Powerplay 2 appearing in the last week ... and completely changing everything in just that one week. Total pledged squadrons are at about 4 times normal levels (relatively speaking, a bigger boost than the Stargoids' arrival gave to AX) while the different ways of earning merits mean that total amounts are unrecognisably high.

Trade (780 pages)
Winners: DSN, Aisling's Angels, The Winged Hussars
While trade has also risen in size along with the rest, the size of the increase isn't as high as some of the other boards - Trade has in the past used CGs to boost its numbers, and those just aren't there at the moment.

Other comments
The big story of course is the release of Powerplay 2 and the substantial increases in participation and activity on all boards. How much of the increases - especially in the last 7 days - get sustained throughout Season 40 is anyone's guess, of course. Without heavy interference by Frontier, Cocijo should also fall before the end of Season 40 - what effect that has on the AX boards really depends on "what's next" in that area and is very hard to predict. In Season 40, we'll also see what a full season looks like for Powerplay - though, of course, with rebalancing still in progress it might still not be entirely "normal". Trade and combat at least are likely to be affected by that, too.

It does appear to be [1] - you have to go back to Season 14 at the end of 2020 where the Hutton Truckers scored 76,086,060,513 points to take the all-time record. Three others have also scored above 37 billion before to win seasons 6, 7 and 13, so Endurance Exploration comes in 5th on the all-time chart - very well done!


[1] I don't have records for seasons 25 or 37 but it seems unlikely that they were higher - @marx may still have the numbers for those in their "Exploration stats" series?

Sure, I do have them, see the thread and also the latest post here. Note that the LYR bonus had applied to all four of those seasons, so if we separate boards to before and after it, then ENEX had set a new record for the post-LYR period. We don't have a way of knowing exactly how much of the previous winners' points came from the LYR bonus, but the Hutton Truckers' 76 billions most likely had a large sum of that, as Frontier removed the bonus contributing extra points to the leaderboard right after this.
