It depends on how you bought it. If you opened a new account with a new email, it should work without a problem. You don't need a second copy on your computer. You can just sign out with one account and sign in with another.
If you bought it using your original account, it would have to be marked as a gift and a separate email would have had to be given at purchase. That second email should work ok.
You'll likely need to open a ticket.

Ah good info cmdr, that is indeed what my issue seems to be.
Got it in the sale for a few quid and was hoping to get it up and running over the silly season.
Devs need to put on the store a “here for second Commander” option. I nearly gave up on it. It’s easy money for them and just annoys regular players.
I did exactly the same thing, not realizing I needed to create a second store account. Support was very happy to refund me and I bought again through the second account.
Really? it doesn't work ON MY DEVICE must be devs fault.
You can open a support ticket without an Elite account just use a working email address. You cannot expect everything to work on tablet btw!
Without being argumentative... Why not? It's 2018, tablet have been out for years and years! Any company wanting to attract business should be tablet compliant.

I couldn’t do it. It’s taken this long to get where I am. The thought of doing it a second time just makes me want to play State of Decay instead.

What browser are you using? What tablet is it (model number & brand)?
Will pass it on to our online services team to have a check after the new year.
Tab 10.1 and Firefox browser, specifically the capita images don't load.
Possibly a browser setting those capita things use flash/java so check those are up to date. Ninite can auto install those just check them on the list of apps you want to install.

Firefox and Chrome should work fine.
You do, however, need a second copy if you want to run both accounts simultaneously (to transfer cargo, getting it some money with wing missions, extra pip from multicrew etc).
You also don't need to sign out\in each time you want to change accounts. Make a second local Windows user, and run the second account from its name via shortcut.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a second e-mail address - the store is "alias compatible" for GMail accounts at least, i.e. myemail+CMDR#1@gmail.com and myemail+CMDR#2@gmail.com both send any e-mails to myemail@gmail.com but are treated as separate by the store and launcher.
ETA: each CMDR will, of course, require a separate store account.

Well alias aware is probably the wrong word since there is no way the shop could know that both emails belong to the same account. It's a very good tip though, never thought about using an alias for that.
