I'm umming and ahhing over this.

I think the novelty will wear out fast without Horizons access. Or when you reach Vulture stage and the 'lowbie' ship feeling disappears. I just don't see it taking very long to hit about 8mil.

And I currently can't think of a good reason for having a 2nd account. To go exploring with whilst your 'main' can stay in the bubble? I hate exploring. Already have a few screens of nebulas and an earthlike with my name on it :/

To go hunting for Thargoid bases next year with? Erm Witchspace... will they even have bases?

But its only an old speckled!

I think they could do a LOT better with the sale prices. Seeing as they basically magic up unlimited stock as it's all digital.

I've been wanting to do some exploring, but I didn't want to give up my activities in the bubble. This is a good time for me to get going on this. Sure it's twice the work, and I'll be very upset if Frontier says in the future that we can log on to different ships from one account at different locations. But for the time being, this works for me.

It's probably primarily targeted at generating potential customers for Elite Dangerous: Horizons from those who don't already own the game. If these new customers choose to upgrade to Horizons then the pre-owners discount of (£10/€12.50/$15) essentially cancels out their initial purchase of the base game meaning they get to pay the same as if they just ordered Horizons alone.

Essentially it's a clever marketing strategy to get new players hooked to the base game so that they want to upgrade to Horizons and are not penalised financially for doing so. That being the case Frontier really couldn't have dropped the price of the base game any lower.

A good deal for the new players who want unlock the Cobra Mk IV (with the acquisition of Horizons, after). And also for those who want to make a gift
