As a space explorer, it is natural to look at the view outside your cockpit, have something catch your eye, and think "I'd like to go there."
How cool would it be to be able to identify stars from the cockpit view, and select them as destinations? Sure would add a lot to the exploration experience. Too many times I've been out in the black and seen something compelling - a cluster or small nebula or something - and tried to match what I was seeing from the cockpit in the galaxy map, and coming up empty.
Would probably require activating a different mode akin to the FSS system scan if for no other reason than it would free up the cursor to pick objects in the starfield. Other than that I don't see how this would be that difficult to implement.
