Secured Items in Settlements

Sometimes in a settlement, I see a "Secured" panel, with some item inside it (I think Catalyst? Specimen?). Clicking "open" on the panel sets off a long (60s+) opening sequence, and the alarms in the settlement go off. Eventually I can loot the item inside.

Are these worth waiting for? I've no problem with the mechanic, but if I'm just collecting stuff that can only be sold I'll pass on the wait and alarm anxiety!

Not really worth the wait and anxiety. If you really want what is in the container, disable the alarm, activate the opening sequence and do something else, like loot.

Tyvm! Disabling the alarm sounds like a plan.

Is there always an alarm control switch somewhere? Not all settlements seem to have a CMD building...

Many of the alarm panels are to be found in different buildings, HABS, PWR, IND, STO, RES. Not just CMD.

Accessing the terminal and hacking if no security level is held is one way to find out.
