Newcomer / Intro Securing Flight Stick to desk.

Sorry in advance if this has been covered, but I kept searching and couldn't find any threads on this. What I want to do is secure my Thrustmaster t-flight HOTAS X to my desk. Now I've come across some suggestions about using velcro or some such. I have some plastic velcro (basically stronger binding plastic based strips) and I want to use them on my HOTAS. However, upon inspecting the bottom, I don't think I'll be able to put them on without taking off the rubber feet already on the stick. My concern is if I screw with those, that I'll also screw up the balance and have a tilted or tottering stick, regardless of if it's secured to the desk. I would ask anyone else who's had experience what worked for them. I want to still be able to remove the stick when needed, however, I need the extra stability because when I pull all the way back or forward the stick's base comes up, and this annoys me to no end.

Please refrain from telling me I need "this much better HOTAS setup that is just so much better, seriously." If and when I can afford a better one, I will probably do that, but at the moment I need to make this work. I absolutely love the stick, I just need the stability.

If the rubber feet are removable...

I removed the rubber feet on mine, ran toggle bolts through the feet and put them back on, then ran the bolts through my desk and fastened them. Works like a charm.

I have an x52 pro...

Hi, velcro works great on securing joysticks.

Don't remove the backing for the adhesive part of the velcro yet.
Place the velcro on the table then put your joystick on top of the velcro (but not on the rubber feet of the joystick).
This way, you can gauge if the velcro will be too thick or not.
If too thick, you will probably need a thinner velcro.

For the Hotas X, you will most likely need to cut the velcro into smaller square pieces to fit it on the bottom surface of the stick.
Maybe 4 or 5 square pieces for each stick and throttle.
Only cut the velcro when both layers of the velcro are still attached together.
After that, stick the velcro squares to the joystick first, then later affix the joysticks to your desk.

There will be some movement with velcro, but it will hold the joystick in place.

Thanks, but I want to avoid bolting anything at the moment...

This sounds easy enough. Thank you, and well explained. +1

Glad to be of help :D
Thanks for the rep.

NP. Worked like a charm! Very little play on the bottoms now.

If anyone's interested in doing the same thing, I used 3M DUAL LOCK fasteners. They're essentially strips of rigid plastic velcro. They are a lot more secure than regular velcro, and evenly spaced, following NEUTRAL's directions, work great!

I'm running With a HOTAS X-52 Pro, and being really cheap :), i used a couple of screen cleaning wipes to fully clean the rubber feet leaving them damp, and to also clean a couple of patches on the desk, then applied each section of the stick to one of the patches. Its still stuck solidly since the official launch of ED.

lol, that's awesome. Whatever works I guess. ;)

Seven year necrosis, I know but that's what the search feature is for, yeah? I'm also looking to secure my Black Widow flight stick to my desk, but it needs to be removable as well; would standard velcro fix with enough support, while also being removable without damaging the desk?

I've got a gladiator NXT that slipped around a bit, but I found no need for velcro. Or even anything permanent.

Just get a roll of this stuff. Cut to match the base of your stick. Attach however you deem appropriate (I got a needle and thread and just used the mounting holes on the NXT's base as a position to sew the thing on)

If the feet of your stick are too thick, no need to remove them - just get some foam sheets the same thickness as the feet, cut it to match the bottom of the stick with holes for the feet to go through, and stick it to the bottom of the stick, then use that to attach the non-slip matting. A can of mounting spray should be more than sufficient to get it to stick and it's non-permanent in the event that you need to remove it at any point.

Necromancy for good is acceptable.
But very unusual. :D (y)
