Newcomer / Intro Security a bit too trigger happy?

So recently I've been making some credits by hitting the pirates that attack resource extraction sites right next to this really nice high tech station with all kinds of fancy mods and such, and I'm making pretty great money. However, I keep running into this intermittent problem.
My current setup is a Cobra with two class 2 gimbaled multi cannons and two class 1 gimbaled beam lasers. So I spend a significant amount of time with constant fire between myself and whichever ship I'm shooting at, and what has happened literally 6 times in the last two hours is invariably one of the many local security forces ships which are hovering around and generally doing jack diddly will fly through my line of fire (or behind the target and getting hit by some missed shots) resulting in me immediately getting a 470 credit bounty. Now while I don't mind paying that, what bothers me is the 4 Eagles 2 Vipers and 1 Anaconda that I suddenly have firing every laser, cannon, and missile they have up my tailpipe as I desperately divert power and spam the boost button to get away where I have to spend another 10 minutes flying to the nearby station and paying off my 720 credit fine for "attempted murder" of some drunk security force pilot who happened to not see the 20 meter wide stream of laser and cannonfire that happened to be right in the direction he was flying.
Couldn't perhaps they make it where NPC security forces only take lethal action when you have a bounty so high? perhaps 5,000cr?
 
this is fixed in the 1.1 update, a glancing blow will no longer get you a wanted status, only sustained fire will do that.
 
Yeah, it is a shame. I switched to fixed pulse lasers, and if there's friendlies getting close to the path, I lay off the multi cannons, and just straight beam it, and am prepared to desist when the friendlies get close.

What I'd like to see is the friendlies also getting a wanted status when they shoot me! I catch friendly fire from behind when attacking. Surprisingly, they stay clean. But get one loose bullet on their hull.....

That's just good trigger discipline.

Do you watch your scanner too?

I find that a combination of the two almost completely eliminates unnecessary minor infractions.
 
Happened to me recently in my Eagle, helped the Cops finish a Python and was happy to get the 49K bounty. Unfortunately one of the stupid Cops managed to fly in the path of my last bullets. 155 Cr bounty on my head and blown out of the sky in 5 seconds by an Elite Anaconda and 3 Vipers. Lost the 49K bounty + 12 K insurance for my Eagle...
Glad to know this will be solved in 1.1 ! :)
